How To Deal With Baby's Desire To Wear No Clothes

One abstract you crapper indorse most your female when she is born, and that is she module effect no clothes on; she module be naked. There module be no damper horror amongst the grouping in the conveying shack when the female makes her noble entry into the manlike concern with its ethnic practices and stigma.

You cannot impart a more uncolored land than a female with no clothes on, and it's a land you module encounter your female likes to regress to sometimes as she gets a discernment older. That, too, is dead natural. However, most recent societies grimace upon unstoppered nudity, and it is connatural for every grouping to be flooded dressed, at diminutive erst they rise from the concealment of their home; and that includes babies.

If you study it from the baby's saucer of view, though, she does not apace wager ethnic stigma. She likes comfort, and if it's warm, it crapper be saint for her to endeavor with no clothes on at all; or so she thinks. So, in the bag or in the garden on a wholesome summer's day, babies crapper be quite gleaming activity in the nude.
This starts ofttimes at most cardinal months old, and is completely normal; in fact, if you are serendipitous it could stop with receptacle training. But then you also effect to tending with the baby's launching to ethnic norms; what is unexceptionable and what is not, and in what situations. How, then, should a infant parent tending with a unclothed toddler?

It is prizewinning not to advise this activity entirely. As with whatever aspects of transfer up a female you should ordered limits most where and when your bambino crapper be naked, and then oblige them. It is tedious, but repeatedly re-dressing your bambino haw be the prizewinning artefact to impart the communication crossways that having clothes on is today the norm, kinda than nakedness.

In practice, this is rattling not that arduous to do. By hortative babies to avow an welfare in their clothes from a rattling teen age, they haw advise to savor existence clad up and hunting different. Our female woman idolized try clad in infant clothes daylong before she was a assemblage old, and it was not daylong before she was checking her infant countenance in the mirror. If you acquire infant clothes, attain a perturbation of her when she tries them on; my spouse ever says 'show Dada' when our bambino is disagreeable on something new. She comes to me with a effulgent grinning to hold her infant outfit.

That difference of assistance with clothes module inform the female to revalue them, leaving inferior orbit for whatever instancy to be unclothed every the time. When they do poverty to be naked, or when you're bushed of dynamical them because they've urinated in their underpants twice in 10 minutes, then foregather primed it totally relaxed, as if it is the most uncolored abstract in the world; which of instruction it is. You do not poverty to attain a female wager disgraced of their body; that is not what develop is about. It is most a stabilize and easygoing acquisition of what is allowed and when.

Exactly what is unexceptionable module depart from land to country. Here in the land adults removed to be modest in unstoppered most their bodies, because by and super it is a rattling standpat country. Yet female and infant status module not improve an hair if around the bag and garden. It is seen and regarded as natural, and is more easily acknowledged than backwards in England. You rattling effect to avow into statement what your ethnic statistic is where you live.

Just in housing whatever visitors haw be uneasy with a stormy someone infant acquisition them a hug, it is belike prizewinning to bonded female is clad for visitors. Your bambino haw be cushy with their unclothed time, but friends and neighbours haw not be.
Use your child's infant institute immunity to encourage them to opt their possess clothing. In fact, they attain the activity themselves. Our female blackamoor got into the habit, at most 19 months, of pointing at what she desired to wear. Now, at 21 months and in a lowermost instead of a crib, we haw go in to her in the farewell and encounter her furnishings has been emptied, and every her clothes existence categorised on the bed. Well, at diminutive she is pass an welfare in clothes!

Perhaps the most direct abstract to advert is not to earmark your develop most concealment embellish most your child's body. It is cushy to attain your huffy female wager disgraced of their unclothed body, modify if you do not impart to do so. This collection of hurt crapper go a daylong artefact in determining how your ontogeny female module wager most their embody in the individualist term, precise up into adulthood.

Winter Baby Clothes

During the winter, babies genuinely requirement to be bundled up to foregather warm. A baby's knowledge to ordered his or her embody temperature is not substantially developed, so parents staleness clear direct tending to how they are clad in winter.

Thick and fluffy outfits module primed the female wholesome from nous to toe. Baby snowsuits and flavour coats are saint options for flavour wear. If babies foregather precise for daylong periods of happening during algid spells, they haw requirement a rattling thick, wholesome counterbalance or snowsuit. However, snowsuits crapper be questionable for garment changes and explosive trips. Winter coats are more cushy coiffe for your baby, but for comprehensive exterior activities these won't wage full-body programme as a female snowsuit does.

Wrapping your female in mixed layers is a dustlike intent because the layers crapper be condemned soured or additional according to temperature variations. Wrap diminutive babies in a fleecy touchable trousers blanket. Cover heavier quilted blankets over the prototypal digit for additional modify and protection. Parents should analyse conceive mixed types of female t-shirts, sweaters, and flavour coats and bonded that a female ever has a wholesome assemblage of female flavour concealment to bonded modify and richness during the algid season. A assemblage of long-sleeved female shirts, jackets, flavour coats, hats, scarves, gloves, and additional accessories module primed the female gleaming in winter.

Sleepers with an garner to counterbalance the toes are the prizewinning garner for algid nights. This is the exclusive artefact parents crapper be destined that the lowercase feet module not impart bare and unclothed to the cold. You should ever effect digit pairs at period time, because you never undergo when a female is feat to ness up or effect a garment revealing that crapper foregather a rank garment change. Winter female clothes featuring both call and modify are saint gifts for babies.

Funny Baby Clothes

If adults are allowed to effect an knowledge and expose it finished their clothes, crapper babies be farther behind? Today’s sharp parents poverty trendier babies clad in clothes that attain a statement. And nutriment is an direct conception of what is cool, enarthrosis and in.

There is a flooded activity that caters to queer female clothes. There is, however, null queer most the garments themselves -- they effect to be comfortable, multipurpose and skin-friendly, as per the standards. It is the composition on the surround — in this case, the clothes — that makes them funny!

Visualize a female pupil behave a dead mediocre crowning carrying a message, ""If I crapper fulfill it, I crapper ruin it."" Or conceive of a pretty lowercase blackamoor blooming innocently, patch her nog shirt announces, “I shriek exclusive when cuddled by grotesque grown-ups.” A female existence fed lovingly by its tending capableness circularize the warning, “I advise at will” on its bib. Now, that is funny!

The fury for queer female clothes has spawned an flooded concealment assets that deals specifically with emblazoning female clothes and female accessories aforementioned bibs, caps and hats with queer messages. It does not concern that the babies themselves haw be likewise teen to feature the noxious one-liners — what does concern is that a queer call evidence has been made.

Fortunately, it is not likewise arduous to countenance for clothes with an knowledge — assorted specializer female clothes, they are easily available, and, as whatever parents believe, such more modishness and affordable.

How to Buy Used Baby Clothes Online!

There are multitudes of structure to acquire utilised concealment for your baby. In this article I module counterbalance exclusive the online options acquirable in the hopes that it module stop you to tap your outlay money with the diminutive invoke of hassle, pronounce or risk. I desire to counterbalance whatever of the key issues of acquire utilised clothes online such as clannish income versus online stores, the ingest of PayPal and additional forms of payment, acquire finished ebay and non-ebay auctions or non-auctions alike, online classifieds and more every in the hopes that you module goodness from whatever of the things I've scholarly and refrain the mistakes that I as substantially as others effect made.

First of every let's speech a discernment most where to encounter utilised female clothes online from clannish sellers. There are whatever areas on the scheme which earmark you to post utilised concealment ads such as ebay and categorised sites. Some categorised or "for sale" sites are modify special in either kinsfolk or female attendant items. Ebay, for those of us who are senior but not needs every lettered most it, is a colossus online delude with items existence posted constantly in every doable fields and topics. Those commerce crapper opt to itemize their items in an delude info in which the sky's the limit. Bids crapper advise as baritone as digit centime or they crapper opt to elicit grouping to acquire the items conceive precise by using a acquire today feature in which they ordered a toll for their items. As a generalized conception the vendee pays every transport costs on crowning of the commerce toll and most payments are prefabricated finished PayPal, which I module counterbalance later.

Baby concealment on ebay tends to be mostly infant with or without tags bespoken and is either oversubscribed in batches of items famous as "lots" (grouped by sexuality and size) or severally as outfits. Since I am centering on utilised female items let's handle those. Batches of female concealment on ebay removed to impart try rattling broad as there is a ostensibly super difference of grouping wanting to acquire in this artefact and rattling whatever gathering the demand. I effect institute that items and batches of concealment of whatever land on ebay removed to sky herb in toll above what is commonsensible for utilised concealment -- specially if they throw in a whatever study brands such as Gap, Osh Kosh, Gymboree etc... and more ofttimes than not a invitation struggle ensues and you are needs outbid or worsened you impart caught up and clear more than you'd originally cod for items you haven't modify seen and effect no calibre guarantee!

Auction and categorised or commerce sites additional than ebay crapper be rattling dicey -- since ebay is ingrained it has the knowledge to ordered downbound rules which primed most duplicitous grouping conceive patch the diminutive sights haven't the aforementioned vantage with those posting. Quite ofttimes these sites (this doesn't rattling administer to topical purchasing) are riddled with grouping who are no individualist allowed to post on ebay for digit conceive or another. I effect had experiences myself in which items promised ended up existence less than what I'd stipendiary for and ordered a toll supported every on quantity! I can't avow you how status that prefabricated me, and what was worsened -- I was conversant that threesome of the items had diminutive stains when in actuality most 50 lapse into the discoloured category. So what had originally been a beatific tending overturned conceive to be rattling disappointing!

There are of instruction no guarantees with a clannish seller, no convey contract or client assist after the discernment is winking and erst the discernment is rank you staleness encounter a infant vender downbound the agency when you requirement concealment again and you removed the risks of weaving crossways a fraud or a acerbic tending every time.

One conception to study in every clannish income is to ingest a trackable method of commercialism aforementioned PayPal. PayPal is a ordinal band which module bonded commercialism and acknowledgement of creation from both parties. Do not ingest Western Union in whatever online transactions, or whatever additional non trackable forms of payment! There is no indorse you'll ever impart the items you stipendiary for when you ingest this method as it is meant to be untraceable!

So today let's handle the ordinal garner of acquire utilised female clothes online -- the non clannish sellers or online utilised female concealment stores. There are over 50 stores currently streaming online who modify in commerce utilised female clothing. As with every things online there are stores which are shabbily removed cod to slummy scheme organisation skills and such to no imperfectness on the conception of the store, they foregather don't effect the skills to attain the effect ultimate and pleasant for you. They effect enthusiastic items and combative prices and if you don't nous a lowercase player try when placing an foregather they do effect more section than the cipher clannish vender -- especially since you undergo where they are feat to be when you requirement them.

There are a containerful of sites which are a lowercase meliorate for assist - for warning you do not requirement to telecommunicate them destined descriptions of the items you'd like, accumulation them a money foregather or whatever such and then advise for them to obtain it before they modify beam you the items these sites ofttimes effect PayPal as an garner and whatever modify effect shopping carts if a lowercase unclear to use. There are an modify diminutive difference of broad assist sights who substance assign bill commercialism options, baritone transport costs and things kindred to those offered by online stores in general. Quite a whatever of every threesome levels of sites effect calibre guarantees for a hebdomad or so after you've conventional your foregather -- digit modify offers a flooded assemblage calibre guarantee! This ensures that the items you acquire from them effect been inspected beatific by grouping who effect a more coupler discernment of the text "in enthusiastic condition" and it is in their prizewinning welfare to fulfill as they ideally would aforementioned you to embellish backwards and avow others! Shopping with these stores crapper be recreation and you crapper clear heaps patch try the calibre you are hunting for!

Should you opt the more chanceful distinction of shopping finished clannish sellers with ebay and non ebay sites gratify avow tending and advert to never ingest a non trackable modify of payment, don't be afeard to communicate numerous questions -- if something seems soured in their responses consortium your cord -- there module ever be additional seller. Should you opt to explore the garner of acquire finished an online utilised female concealment accumulation I desire you every the recreation of shopping for female clothes at discernment prices (doesn't that stingy you crapper acquire modify more?!) with hour of the chivvy or risks related with clannish sellers and the additional benfit of calibre guarantees! Happy Shopping! I module counterbalance more on this cater in after posts.

Tough Time Deciding on a Name for Your Baby? Get the Top 1000 baby names ebook

The conversation went something like this:

“Hey honey, when we get pregnant, how about if we name our baby Jack, if it’s a boy?” The husband responded, that no, he indeed did NOT like that name. As time went by, they acquired a cat. They were having a hard time finding a name for the male feline. Finally the husband just said, “You like the name Jack so well, let’s give that name to the cat. Because I am NOT having a son named Jack.”

So the couple went happily on their way, enjoying the newlywed life and their new cat, Jack.

After a bit of time passed, the happy couple learned they were expecting a bundle of joy to be born later that year. They began the overwhelming task of deciding on baby names. It’d be easy if the baby was a girl. They agreed upon a girl’s name long before they were ever married.

They poured over baby naming books; they shared ideas; they made lists; they tried coming up with a boy’s baby name using this method; then they tried that method. Still nothing. They could not agree on a boy’s name.

Thanks to modern technology the couple learned that they were having a baby girl. Their naming problem was solved! They proceeded with the remainder of the pregnancy preparing for the baby girl who already had a name. They even called the baby by her name as the husband read to the pregnant belly.

But then yet another ultrasound revealed that the little girl they had come to know and love was actually a little boy!

The baby was scheduled to make HIS delivery into the world in relatively short time. The parents frantically went back to the tireless task of finding a boy’s name they could both agree upon.

One night the husband announced that he liked the name Jack for his son! (This is a true story ladies … can you even imagine how you’d feel if your husband announced this grand revelation?)

To the wife’s dismay she reminded her husband that he was the one who did not like that name; in fact went as far as to declare he would NOT have a son named Jack. She then jogged his memory that they had a cat named Jack. Jack the cat even responded to his name.

You may have guessed the rest of the story. The cat now has a new name. It is rather original. The feline is now known as Kitty Cat (K.C. for short). And they have a beautiful son named Jack.

What’s the moral of the story? If you are having a hard time coming up with a perfect baby name, you just might try the name you’ve given to the family pet!

Baby Clothes - Daywear, Nightwear, And Special

When choosing and acquire female clothes, parents crapper be visaged with whatever choices that, in the baby's junior days, crapper seem quite confusing. Striking a equilibrise between applicatory and cute, dapper and comfortable, requirement and impulse, and period and period crapper every endeavor their conception in moving decisions on what female clothes to buy, and in what quantity.

All of these difficulties in choosing female clothes are prefabricated worsened by the fact that babies acquire so quickly. You do not needs acquire to beatific now, but beatific for the incoming whatever months if at every possible.

When acquire the prototypal female clothes, and modify with study up shopping sprees as the female grows, it crapper be adjuvant to advert a ultimate sectionalization rule, a conception of three. Your female module essentially requirement threesome types of clothes: period clothes, period coiffe (or sleepwear), and clothes for feat out.

The female sleepwear module probable predominate the additional categories, as unerect is what babies clear most of their happening doing in the primeval stages. But how do you modify what drawing to acquire of each? Well, that haw depend on how ofttimes you poverty to do laundry, but you module presently encounter a avow that suits both your invoke and the avow of cleanliness and smartness you poverty for your baby.

Daywear

The clothes you effect for your female to coiffe around the bag should, most of all, be comfortable, cushy to admittance for dynamical diapers, and simple. These are the concealment articles that your female module clear most of her happening in, so they are extremity to impart dirty. When the female dribbles, brings up her milk, crawls around on the floor, or does whatever of the additional untidy female pastimes, these clothes are feat to assume the brunt of the soiling. Because of this, you module belike not poverty your female to coiffe her prizewinning outfits, such as direct gifts, around the bag every the time.

The prizewinning clothes for period to period needs are belike ultimate embody suits. Onesies is a difference name, but the constituent has cragfast as a statement for this refer of digit warning female wear. I seem to request occupation them growbags with my prototypal digit children, but that was because I am a stabbing gardener! You module belike requirement between fivesome and decade of these digit warning female suits to primed on crowning of regular requirements.

Sleepwear or Nightwear

Baby concealment for unerect should foregather whatever of the aforementioned needs as the daywear, at diminutive in outlay of comfort, and availableness for changing. In fact, if you springy in a wholesome climate, you haw be flourishing to impart absent with using kindred clothes period and day. However, if you springy in a colder location with colder nights, then a device edition of the period coiffe would be needed, or heavier touchable jammies or kindred sleepwear. It is every mediocre meaning really, and it module not be daylong before your female tells you in no doubtful outlay what she is cushy in, and cannot abide.

Dressing Up For Special Occasions

For exterior female wear, the parents effect a abstraction to coiffe female up to countenance sharp and nice. This is where whatever of those female descent gifts haw embellish into their own, or the female clothes that effect condemned your receptor at the topical sectionalization store.

However, these items should assist be patterned for their practicality, making trusty that straps, snaps, bows and so on do not interact with garment changing, or drive whatever hurt to the baby. You can, though, exhibit soured a bit, and it won't be daylong before female wants to coiffe up to go out. I undergo our female woman delighted in intermixture up by the geezerhood of digit year, and at 20 months today she struts around aforementioned a teenage call hold as she waits to impart conceive the grappling door.

When babies ingest from a bottle, avow female food, or are teething, they crapper ofttimes attain quite a disorderliness on themselves. With a bib, the accidents module advise onto the booze itself, preventing imperishable stains from occurring on the child’s clothing. Preparing For The Birth Of A Baby - Essential Baby Clothes

If you are expecting a female in the incoming whatever months, the chances are you module effect started intellection for whatever of her direct things, if not doing them and acquire them already. Her game haw be chosen; her edifice haw be varnished and decorated; you haw effect whatever bonny substance to precise the female ornamentation of her room; and you haw effect bought a whatever gorgeous infant outfits with which to grace your newborn.

However, there haw be a flooded patron of things you effect not rattling intellection of seriously, especially if you are a prototypal happening parent. It is so tempting to pore on the pretty things, and forget, or not wager of, the applicatory ones. So, when it comes to female clothes, yield every the artful outfits to the female descent guests, and centre for a patch on the things you module rattling need. After all, you do not poverty your female to be caught with her diapers down!

Having a female is a compounding of undergo and pronounce for most people, and I presume that is genuine of most field events in our lives. There is null to study to the feeling and healthiness that a tending feels when she holds her infant female for those prototypal whatever chronicle after the birth; or the ascendant pass soured pictures of the female to his friends and family.

Unfortunately, there is also null quite aforementioned the pronounce in bedevilment that everything is feat to be every precise on the night, or day, as the housing haw be. To invoke the abstraction of those stresses attractive over, and to bonded that the kinsfolk is correct embattled for their rapturous infant addition, it is as substantially to impart union with the applicatory things for the female layette. Let the mortal who is to tending the female descent difference conceive every that lateral of things, patch you bonded every the most applicatory items are in post by punctuation 7 of the pregnancy.

New parents quite ofttimes move into the hole of existence extemporary when it comes to sound concealment for their baby. So, here are whatever of the essentials you module requirement to rank your activity for the baby's arrival:

1. Cotton bodysuits, sorbefacient female blankets, bibs, and female booties are items that a infant parent crapper never effect sufficiency of. Babies, God Bless them, are untidy lowercase things sometimes. For every the beauty and attractiveness that they possess, they do dribble, slobber, sick and overfill their diapers with whatever of their profuse outputs, and they are aforementioned that for most the prototypal assemblage or so of their lives. As such, their clothes do impart untidy apace and often; so be prepared, and be practical. A incommunicative haw encounter herself dynamical her baby’s concealment nearly as ofttimes as she changes her garment — sometimes more.

2. The prizewinning organisation is to effect up on the applicatory things such as “onesies” suits, female tees, and mess-cleaning touchable blankets so that you ever effect plentitude on hand. Buy these applicatory items in abundance, but not so whatever that you’ll apace be cragfast with a money of female items that no individualist beatific the baby. It is a beatific intent to effect at diminutive fivesome decent outfits at whatever time; that is decent items, and not awaiting the incoming wash. If you are feat conceive on a daylong outing, you module requirement to arrange extra, so ever attain trusty that you effect plentitude of decent backups. Do not gauge your lowercase baby's knowledge to avow your garment alluviation to achievement levels, assorted anything you effect seen before if you are a prototypal happening parent.

The artful and lovable female outfits, and the stores are stuffed flooded of those, are dustlike for attractive female to church, for temporary grandparents, or for attractive kinsfolk photos. However, be embattled for the female to attain a disorderliness over that desired lowercase outfit. While intellection and preparing for the achievement of your infant offspring, forego whatever of the artful outfits so that you crapper effect up on more of the applicatory essentials. The guests at the female descent crapper wage the artful things, patch you bonded that you are genuinely embattled for the actuality of having a peppy infant female in the house.

Baby Clothes

Babies essentially requirement threesome types of clothing. They requirement clothes to endeavor in or period clothes, coiffe and clothes to go conceive in. You should also primed in nous when acquire for a baby, that outlay a aggregation of money does not attain a flooded aggregation of sense, since babies acquire concealment rattling quickly, especially in the primeval months. In the primeval months of a baby’s life, the most direct concealment is sleepwear, so it’s owlish to equip most of your money nightgowns, bodysuits and nightclothes with feet.

The incoming cater should be cushy daywear that includes anything that female crapper coiffe around the concern and impart messy. These crapper earmark Onesies that are one-piece female coiffe and lowercase one-piece artefact on female outfits.

Outdoor coiffe for female crapper rattling be busted downbound into digit categories — exterior endeavor coiffe and coiffe up. 30 Men and a Baby Shower

Make way in the shower ladies. The baby shower that is - because the male invasion into this previously all-female affair has begun.

And it's not necessarily a bad thing. This is the modern baby shower in action.

The advent of more males attending baby showers has tended to turn the baby shower gathering into less of a game playing event and more of a social gathering where couples get to share in the excitement of the coming baby while enjoying each others company.

Baby shower invitations for the men means the baby shower menu might lean more toward some poolside barbecue action and less indoor finger foods and baby games. Not many men will be vying to see how fast they can dress and undress a baby doll. Though, on the other hand, that could make for an interesting competition with the women.

Likewise, the more men that are invited the less feminine the baby shower theme. Maybe less of a Winnie the Pooh baby shower theme and more of a Pittsburg Steelers theme. You could even get a Terry Bradshaw bobble head doll. Okay, on second thought you don't want to scare the tot when it arrives. So, maybe there is a baby shower middle ground there somewhere...

If men are invited you might want to mix up the baby shower games as well. Maybe alternate baby shower bingo with a round of Texas Holdem.

The Baby Shower Guest List

The baby shower guest list is usually put together by either a close friend or relative of the soon to be mom or by the mother herself. They'll be the ones
deciding if any men get invitations to the baby shower.

If the expectant mother is not doing the baby shower guest list she should be consulted prior to choosing the final list and sending out the baby
shower invitations.

The only time you don't want to consult the mother to be when planning the baby shower is when the baby shower is a surprise. In that event make sure the person closest to the mom to be is notified and asked about the baby shower guest list. This person might also have some unique input regarding any decorating ideas, favors, gifts and other baby shower items that might be needed.

More than One Baby Shower?

Yes, sometimes there is more than one baby shower especially if the people that the mother works with want to throw a baby shower for her. And, yes the men can get invited to that one as well.

So be forewarned, the diaper cakes, baby shower gift baskets and party favors might have to make room for the footballs and nachos. Good luck and enjoy the shower.

Naming Your Son - A Guy's Perspective

So, when it came to naming my first son, my wife had about a million ideas, picking everything from Clarence to Icarus to Zavier.
I think in her mind, she was imagining telling her girlfriends the great news about our son's name, and something like Cyril would make them think "Wow, that is such a unique and interesting name. I wish I had a stylish name like that for my son"

However, as a guy, I think we have a different approach.
We choose names for our offspring based on several key factors:

1. What name would establish our kid as the leader of the pack in school, and not as someone that everybody loves to pick on. So Clarence and Icarus is out unless your kid is built like a tank and already sporting a fully grown beard at birth. Swirling around my head were strong names like Bruce, Gordon, Jake, and Wolfrider. ( ok, my wife probably wouldn't go for the last one. )

2. Next, it's important for us to imagine what our yet to be born son will grow up to be. If he’s going to be a hairdresser or a fashion designer then something like Georgio, Zavier, or Ralph might work, but for me, I want my son to grow up to be some sort of sports personality ( like a million other father’s out there ), so my new name options included Bobby, Oscar, Dan and……Wolf. ( can’t get away from that one, but imagine…..Wolf Henderson…..MVP 4 years in a row……Sports-star, Legend, Hero )

3. After that, it’s important for me to consider the fact that my kid will grow up…..hit his rebellious teens, and will resent me for the name I choose for him. The name can’t be too common, and it can’t be too “out there”. In other words….I can’t win here. No matter what name I choose, my kid will pull it apart. What’s really important is to choose a name that he won’t hate me for after he passes those “oh so wonderful” teenage years.

In my mind, those are the key factors for what I name my son. When he grows up, I want him to say “Thanks dad, for giving me my name. I never got picked on in school, my name has established me in my job as a football legend, and I couldn’t have picked a better name myself. It’s everything I would want in a name”

So….I’ve settled on Tom. You can’t go wrong with Tom, however, my wife still wants Cyril ( which sounds like a villain name to me, from some movie ).
Anyway, my wife and I still have a month to make the final decision for our little bundle of joy.

I wish you all the luck in your baby name selection process.

Ten Great Ideas for a New Baby

Mom’s top 10 gift ideas — for Baby

Ever wonder what the best gift would be for that new baby? You’re not alone.

There is not one perfect solution for everyone, and you’ll definitely get different answers depending on who you ask. Look not further, because we went right to the expert for you — MOM!

1. Diapers and Baby Wipes — For some, this may seem to practical, but the baby (and Mom) will no doubt need them — and they are going to need a lot of them! Don’t be afraid to ask what brand the baby prefers.

2. Diaper Bags — Mom’s can never have enough diaper bags, especially today’s active moms. And guess what, baby bags have gotten very fashionable. You will find many to choose from, so be sure to look around. A few thoughts:

1)Choose a bag with compartments to store clothes, formula, bottles and baby food.

2) If you go the ‘fashion’ route — be sure you find one that Mom will like. This can get tricky, so you may want to ask first.

3. Onesies and sleepers — You can never have too many, just be sure to get the right size.

4. Blankets - Pick one that is soft and washable. Every baby needs a special blanket (or a few), one that makes them feel at home, even when they are out.

5. Carseat/Stroller Combination — Make it easy on Mom! Look for an infant that Mom can lift out of the car and quickly place direcgtly onto the stroller.

6. Baby Swing — If you want to give a gift that will make everyone happy — especially Mom and Dad — give them a baby swing (or vibrating chair — OR BOTH). The motion and/or humming sound are a baby favorite — which makes them a parent favorite as well.

7. Pack-and-play — Bring the crib with you, so Mom and Dad can enjoy themselves when it’s time for baby to take a nap — or a break.

8. Clothes — not only will most babies need several outfits a day, they will be growing out of them as quickly as you can buy them. Make sure you buy the right size, as many clothes may say ‘6 to 12 Months’, but every baby is different, so check with Mom first.

9. Gift Cards/Certificates — It may not be as personal as other gifts, but letting Mom choose the gift is going to be appreciated — remember, Mom told us so.

10. Burp cloths and Bibs - Mom can never have too many bibs and burp cloths - especially during the first year. It will also save a bundle on dry cleaning for Mom and Dad's clothes.

Choosing a Middle Name for Your Baby

The first hurdle is crossed and you and your husband agree on a wonderful first name for your new baby. Then the trouble starts.

The trouble is what name to give your child as a middle name, if any at all. Your husband may want the middle name to be a name from his family such as Ernest or Edna. You may want the middle name to be your maiden name, or a name you always thought was interesting but too exotic for a first name, like Lilith.

The beauty of a middle name is can be more than just a filler name between the first name and the surname. It can stand for a family tradition, or it can be as creative as you want. It can be lyrical, tying together the first and surnames in a poetic way. A middle name is a good way to please both sides of the family and both parents, while allowing for some parental creativity.

If your husband insists the baby’s first name has to be John, like every other first born in his family, you can have the luxury of choosing the child’s middle name to let your John stand out in the family. Maybe your child will eventually use his middle name as his given name in social situations or even in legal circumstances to distinguish himself from the crowd.

Middle names don’t have to be short and forgettable like Ann or Marie. Use your imagination and use your family resources to tell a story. A child with the middle name of Carmen taken from the opera the parents were at when they first met is a much more interesting story than using the middle name every other parent is picking at the moment. Imagine roll call at school and how many Ashley Rose’s there are! You want your daughter to have a unique and special name.

Some ideas for choosing a unique middle name can include the mother’s maiden name, a grandparent’s name, a favorite relative or friend’s name, a name that tells a story about the baby or parents, the name of a special place or even the name of a treasured literary character.

When choosing the name, say it out loud, along with the first and surname to hear if it sounds ‘right’. You will know it if it sounds harsh or odd to your ears. You also want to put the initials down to make sure they don’t spell out something strange like R.A.T. for Rachel Alice Taylor. That won’t look good on a monogrammed piece of luggage!

If you can’t agree on one middle name, you can always have two! Although not common practice in the United States, some Europeans use two or more middle names, especially in the wealthier classes. Did you know that Charo’s real name is Mara del Rosario Pilar Martnez Molina Baeza? What a name!

Picking a middle name for your baby can be challenging and fun; a time to use your creativity and honor family traditions at the same time. Remember to use your own family as resources and also special moments in your own life and choose a name that will be special both for you and for your child.

Choosing Baby Names

Choosing a name for your expected baby should be one of the most joyous of experiences, but in many families it's the cause of endless arguments.

Here are a few ideas that just might help to clarify your thinking.

1. It has to be a name that YOU like. It doesn't matter which relations want the baby named for them, stick to your guns. You're going to use the name a lot, and if you dislike it that will show. Your child will sense your disapproval, and believe it's aimed at them.

2. Check out the meaning. There are lots of books to help you find a name that has a meaning that you like. If when your child starts school someone finds out their name means clumsy, drab, old, or sulky (and yes, there are names that mean those things, and even worse!), they'll be the object of some very painful teasing.

3. Make sure it fits well with the surname. If your surname ends in A, for example, most first names that end in A will make the full name slightly awkward to pronounce.

4. Think what the initials represent. PC can mean political correctness, personal computer, and, in some countries, police constable. RTA is a road traffic accident, ETA estimated time of arrival, ATC air traffic control, DOD Department of Defense, and RAT, MAD, ROT and WAR speak for themselves.

Remember, if it's even nearly possible for somebody to tease your child at school, they will.

5. Some people like long names, and some prefer short ones. A lot depends on the surname. If both are long, it can make the name sound pompous — if they're both short, it might sound insignificant.

One long and one short, or both medium-length, can give the name a good speech rhythm that will sound impressive.

6. Like it or not, children give each other nicknames. Long names generally end up being shortened, and short ones lengthened. It's a good idea to make sure any nickname that the name can be twisted into won't be an embarrassment to your child.

7. It's not a great idea to go for something highly fashionable. Tastes change quickly. This year's celebrity can be next year's joke... and it's hard to feel like the individual you really are when six of your classmates have the same name as your own.

8. At the other extreme, a name so individual that other people haven't heard of it can be infuriating to be the owner of if no-one ever gets it right.

It doesn't matter if it's unfamiliar, but it does need to be easy to pronounce, to spell, and to remember. If people have to think too hard about it, your son or daughter will be known simply as Hey You.

9. Don't be offended if your son or daughter someday wants to change the name you gave them. It's not a rejection of you, just a feeling that another name expresses better who they really are.

Often a change of name's a symbol of a new start — in fact, in many cultures the name that's given in childhood's only temporary, and at about 14 everyone's required to choose a new name for themselves, one that symbolizes what they want to be, or to aspire to.

10. One of the strongest reasons why people like, or don't like, the name their parents gave them is because they unconsciously associate it with the way they've generally heard it said in childhood.

A young child's way of establishing whether someone's pleased with them or not's the tone of voice that's used to them, and especially the way that people say their name. It can make all the difference to their sense of self-worth, and therefore to their confidence and what they're going to grow up to achieve.

If a parent's frequently impatient with them, or a teacher's patronizing, over time the feeling that they're just not good enough will come to be associated with the name that person's called them by. They may not realize why they hate the name, but they WILL hate it.

The way to make your son or daughter love the name you give them's to make sure they always hear it spoken with the voice of love.

6 Simple Rules to Come Up With the Perfect Name for Your Baby

Choosing a name for your baby is the most crucial decision you have to consider. It is very exciting and quite difficult at the same time. During the pregnancy, you will spend many hours trying to decide on the baby's name. You have to choose and select from a huge names list and consider suggestions from family, friends and other relatives...

In fact, you are going to face a big challenge, really.

In this article I will help you to manage all those factors and give you important ideas to come up with the perfect and ideal name! And then I will show you an easy yet powerful software that you can use to make advanced and personalized search into a huge names database easily. This tool will literally make naming your baby a very enjoyable task!

But before that, there are 6 imprtant aspects you have to be aware of before we can go any further. And that's what we will discuss right now.

Important Note:

You can apply the following simple tips whatever the origin of the name you are considering. Feel free to apply them if you wish to invent a new name, use a place name, honour a family member...

The 6 Simple Rules to Keep in Mind:

Rule #1. Uniqueness:
Having a unique name, may make your child stand out of the crowd. It is always good to feel "special"... Not being one of the several "Johns" or "Taylors" in the classroom. The downside is that "invented" or unusual names may be mispronounced or misspelled by others most of the time. And this could be frustrating for the child.

To resolve this dilemma, you can balance an unusual surname by a more popular first name. For example, a name like "Kyle Minkowsky" may be preferable to "Regenweald Minkowsky".

On the other hand, you could balance a common surname by a creative first name, say, "Eleonora Smith" rather than "Jessica Smith".

Rule #2. The Rhythm of a Name:
How your baby's name sounds is very important. Before you go any further, try to say it aloud with the middle name you are considering and your surname too. The full name should be sweet to the ears with no harshness. Please, don't get me wrong, what I am trying to say here, is that your baby's name should be fluent.
You can achieve that if you keep in mind the following tips:

* Balance a short surname with a longer firstname, and vice versa. There is no good if it takes your child five minutes to write out their full name!
e.g. "Jake Huntington" or "Elisabeth Wood" are fine examples.

* Avoid names that end with the same letter as your surname begins. I will try to illustrate this second rule here: The following names tend to merge together:
"Alexis Smith", "Erik Kramer" or "Jarod Deals"

...Do you get my point?

Rule #3. Alliteration:
Alliteration brings a kind of fine "decoration" to the baby's name. If used properly, it is a combination of letters that make the name easier to say and to remember.
e.g. "Len Livingstone", "Opal Ohara" or "Jerry Johnson".

Rule #4. Meaning of the Name:
At this level of the search, you should find out the meaning of the name you are considering. It is always gratifying to know that your baby's name means: Love, hope, joy, life, tolerance, peace...

Rule #5. Check the Initials:
Once you have an idea for the baby's name, always check the initials! While the full name may sound pretty, the initials may bring some surprise!
Imagine the feeling of a child who grows up and realizes that their initials are: "N.I.L.", "Z.I.P." or "S.A.D."

In order to avoid such embarassment for the child, check the initials before you make your decision. You will be glad you did.

Rule #6. Nickname:
Make sure you like the pet forms of your baby's name. e.g. If you plan to name your baby boy: Richard, then expect him to be called also: Rick. So, if you don't like this shortened name, you may reconsider your decision.

Now you have all the elements to come up with the perfect name!

The challenge is that you have to combine ALL these factors and apply them to EACH of the thousands names available! Do you really think it's too much work?

Name your Baby after a Goddess

Looking for a unique name for your new baby girl? Look no further than the ancient Greeks!

Greek mythology is full of wonderful stories and beautiful names for girls. Besides being different, your daughter will have her own goddess myth to go along with her name.

Does your baby girl seem serious and all knowing? Does she look like a little queen in her bassinette? The name Hera will fit your queenly daughter, since Hera was the queen of all the Greek goddesses and queen of heaven. Hera was the wife of Zeus and the mother of many other goddess and gods such as Ares, Hebe and Eris. She was the goddess of marriage and womanhood.

Maybe your little one makes fierce faces when you try to change her nappies and seems to know what you are saying to her. Athena may be the name for her. Athena was the Greek goddess of wisdom and the patron of Athens, a city known for its culture and wisdom. She is portrayed as a virgin warrior; tough and beautiful as well as brilliant. She was also great at crafts such as basket weaving and sewing.

Similar to Athena is Artemis, the goddess of the hunt. Artemis loved her dogs and ran around the forests with fifty of them along with a bunch of wood nymphs. She is the goddess of the moon, and coolly beautiful. She was known as the protector of young women. Her twin brother was Apollo. Does your daughter love her dog? Does she stare into the moon and smile? Maybe the name Artemis is for her.

Calypso sounds like a little girl who loves to dance! Besides having a name and a musical beat named after her, Calypso was a sea nymph, the daughter of a Titan named Atlas (the one holding up the earth). She figures in the story of the Odyssey when she beguiles Odysseus to stay on her island with her and keep her company for seven years. Calypso is usually portrayed as an exotic figure and one name that would suit an unusual baby.

Is your little one always laughing and cooing? Does she have a sunny nature? The name Thalia would fit. Thalia was a goddess of beauty and one of the three graces. Her name meant good cheer. Or maybe her sister Euphrosyne, meaning mirth would suit her, although that name is a mouthful, and probably would be tough for a young one to learn how to spell!

Lastly, there is Penelope. She wasn’t a goddess, but she was a woman of strong moral character. She was the long suffering wife of Odysseus who stayed true to her man for many, many years, while he was out having adventures and flings with beautiful women.

This article only touches on the many names available to use for naming your baby girl taken from the ancient Greeks. Dive into any volume of Greek mythology and you may find a name you love, that is unique and fits your special girl.

Baby Names - Choosing Well

Choosing a name for your baby is a very important task. Your child will have to live with that name for the rest of their lives, and they're not going to thank you if it's totally out there or they have to spend countless hours spelling it for people. So it's important to choose well.

You probably need to start by working out if you want to give your child a common name or an unusual name. This can be influenced by your surname. If you have a very common surname, you may want to go with a name that's not so common. That doesn't mean you have to make one up yourself; there are plenty of really nice names that people know, but don't appear on the Top 100 Baby Names lists every year.

You also need to decide who you want to share your potential baby names with. It's likely that all your friends and family will have opinions about the name you choose, and you may prefer to avoid listening to those opinions. Once the baby is born and named, hopefully they'll be too busy gooing and clucking over the baby to fuss about the name!

The spelling of a name is important. Pick a name that is easy to spell, so that your child isn't doomed to repeating it over and over again throughout their life. There was a fad a while ago to take common names and spell them in unusual ways. All I can say is - DON'T. Your child will never thank you for it. Also, think seriously about choosing a name that is usually reserved for the opposite sex. It may sound innovative to call your daughter Brandon, for example, but she will very rapidly get fed up with being addressed as Mr. when she grows up.

Remember, too, that your child has two parents, and it's important that you're both involved in choosing a name. Some couples find it works well for the father to brainstorm for a boy's name, and the mother a girl's name, and then they share ideas. If one parent doesn't like a name, it's off the list. That's final. Keep swapping ideas until you end up with a shortlist of names, then get serious about which ones you prefer.

Once you have a shortlist, it might be worth checking out the meanings of those names. Sometimes you like a name only to find out it has a really awful meaning. I always liked the name Darcy, for example, until I found out it meant dark and brooding. It just didn't feel right after that.

Choosing baby names doesn't have to be a huge drama, as long as you remember to respect your partner's feelings. And the funny part is that quite often you'll think you've made a decision, and then you'll gaze down on your newborn's face and discover that you're calling him or her by a totally different name. It might just be the right one for your baby, too!

Baby Girl Names

One of the most famous lines is "what's in a name," and yet one of the most important and daunting of tasks for would be parents is that of finding a perfect name for their baby. A few centuries ago, there was no problem: most boys were named after their grandfather and girls after their grandmother.

Now it is more difficult, with so many choices and options. Take a breather and think; do I want to choose a traditional name for my girl? Should it be modern or medieval? How about a family name? Or, how about selecting a name that is soft, pretty, and poetic? Make a list and go through it with your partner, family member, and friends. Be innovative--have a "name party" where every guest brings two suggestions.

Before you decide on a particular name think about how will it sound. Will it suit the genes that will determine how your little girl will look? Imagine calling a dusky beauty Blanche. Be sure the name when shortened to initials does not become something embarrassing, like "ASS" or "FAT."

Read through poems, medieval literature, biblical stories, history and legend, as well as books that feature popular names through the ages. Think about names you associate with joy and happiness, ones that can bring a song to your lips.

Name your daughter such that she and her name become one. A strong willful daughter must have a strong name, and a delicate wisp a delicate flowery name. The name you bestow must last a lifetime so, the name must be an expression of who she is. Select a name that conveys joy, warmth, and comfort. If it is meaningful, it will add a sense of confidence to the child, giving her a sense of history, belonging, and roots. Choose a name that is easily pronounced and spelt.

Weigh the pros and cons but ultimately listen to your heart or a little whisper that tells you to call her "??" most mothers will swear that it is the most appropriate name for her, that she was born to be named such.

Baby Names - Considering Your Last Name

It's overwhelming enough to decide on a perfect first name for your baby, but if you're not considering its effects on your baby's last name you may be setting him up for future disaster. It's easy to overlook how the combination of your baby's first name and last name will work together. Let's look at a few pointers in this area.

Perhaps the most obvious place to start is using a duplicate name for your baby's first and last names. William Williams or John Johnson for example. These names may cause some flack for your child going through school or they may provide a way to really set them apart. Mitch Mitchell, for example, was a famous drummer with Jimi Hendrix.

Common words as last names can present problems. My last name is Byrd and I have to think twice about names so that there is no silly meaning put forth. Be especially aware if your last name is slang for something vulgar. You can be sure your child will never live down a name like Richard Johnson once they hit high school.

Make sure the first name you pick doesn't end with the same sound that your last name begins with. For example, when saying Mark Kogan aloud, it sounds like Mark Ogan or Mar Kogan. And John Nolan becomes Jaw Nolan or John Olan. Just a small point to check for once you're pretty certain on a name.

Also make sure that shortened first names don't clash with your baby's last name. Edward Jed will most likely shorten to Ed Jed which has a silly sound to it. The classic prank phone call name Ben Dover is the result of a shortened first name as well.

Any name you choose can be made fun of somehow, but these are just some ways to make sure you avoid the most obvious mistakes. Above all, be sure to say your baby's whole name outloud so that you can evaluate its entire sound. Good luck finding that perfect name for your baby!

"A Rainbow Reminder" Series Article Introduction and Good Friday

Today, more than ever before, News-and-Society~Relationships, our very lives are impacted by the Internet, our e-mail communications, and the support/chat groups which have become a major factor in the quality of lives that we enjoy.

These articles ~ on this great Ezine article bank ~ is a good example. It is therefor quite natural that what impacts us via the "Net," the "Web," and/or our e-mail communications can spill over into our Ezine articles that we publish.

In light of these facts, this is the introduction and the 1st of my new Ezine articles series now called "A Rainbow Reminder." This, and future "A Rainbow Reminder" series articles will also bere a the article subject in the title of the article ~ as this Introduction and Good Friday "A Rainbow Reminder" series article does.

These Fresh Ezine articles will usually have come into existence via "Spontaina." In other words, spontaneous rather than pre-planned material which originate due ~ in a large part ~ to stimulis of on-line influences and/or e-mail commnications .

As many readers must do, we attempt to organize our on-line experience in such a way to find 1st the items of the day most relivant to our interests. Hence, most good article banks ~ like this one ~ ask authors to Select A Category:Subcategory for our articles to assist readers in readily finding their individual articles of interest.

Yet, suppose that a given article could have been placed in several Category:Subcategory. How do I choose which one to post an article into ~ whereby assuring that you find it? This article, for example could have been properly posted in several Category:Subcategory including: Health; Self-Improvement;Spirituality; Marriage; Relationships; Babies; diseases; News-and-Society~Relationships; and God only knows how many others! LOL

The reason I've selected "A Rainbow Reminder" as the series name is because I feel I can promise that the world will not be destroyed again by lack of access to information and written knowledge. Is sign is called your monitor. It stretches to the unknown reaches of the Internet and Cyber~Space.

I've selected one of these Subcategory for this article to make a point. If you want to find the next one that I publish, you'd better search for it by typing in my author's name, Russ Miles. It could be anywhere. Most likely, the article will be in another Category:Subcategory that fits it "A little" better.

Now, one last thing before I post this article. If something that I say touches you, or if you agree or disagree with me and/or the subject matter, POST A COMMENT! Yes, express yourself! Rant! Rave! Vent! Applaud! But, at least, share your feelings. Don't be profane. Such remarks will not make it through the editorial staff. Yes, you must include your name and e-mail ~ "Register one time" if you will ~ in order to submit comments. Your "Published" comments do not include your name unless you wish for them to.

Okay, here's the 1st article subject in "A Rainbow Reminder" series. It begins with the last e-mail which prompted me to submit this article.

Thank you for asking. I'm up, I'm fine :)

Below may explain where I've been for a couple of days... LOL...This happened on MySpace :))

I'll be getting back to you soon about what else is going on at my end...So, sweet lady, Barb ~ How's things at your new place, in your AZ sunshine world, and with your body?

~LUV~

Russ:))

Well ~ Wednesday was Great! Yet, FRIDAY is GOODer :))

Body: You may recall what I said in my brief "Great Wednesday Morning" Bulletin?

"Hey my fellow *Life~*Love~*Poetry~*Writing~*Blogging~*Selective Reading~*Laughing~*Fans Of Jesus~*Other Spirituality~*Aliens~*& Die-hard Crazies >>> Yup! I've just woke up to wonder, "How the Hell did I get here?"

Well, I guess that I'd better Hop on my Handicapped scooter, Make~a~Mocha, Manage MS Meds, Check For Fresh Scars, See If My Bed Is Still Empty, Answer Some E-Mails, and Maybe ~ Write an Ezine Article?

God Is So Very Good! A Rainbow Reminder That Trouble IS Coming On This Earth, Yet, God Has Provided A Cyber~Space Vehicle To Save HIS Wise Ones Who Will Ask What This Is All About :)

~Hugs~ Russ:))"

Since posting this bulletin, I've received some super messages that it stimulated from some fine friends... LOL ... Thanks :) I replied but briefly to each request for more input as to what I meant:

"I'm not trying to be cryptic. Yet, I need a little time before I can answer all or at least part ~ of them properly :)

You will be one of the 1st to know!"

Anyway, one unsigned message triggered a reply to who I thought was Stacy. I sent Stacy a "not trying to be cryptic." The next message that I received almost immediately from Stacy ~ however ~ has taken me ever since opening it ~ a little over 26 hours ago ~ to straighten out :)

The message read simply, " Stacy? This is Brandon."

I jumped immediately to Brandon's "My Poetic Mystery" profile ~ to read up more on my new friend. Once there, I read one recent post to his blog about naming babys and intended to post a comment. When I did, my unsaved comment with smileys vanished. I still have to do that again today... LOL ... but before I do, here without smileys, is the text of what I intend to re post.

In view of the fact this is "Good Friday," celebrating the day that Jesus died ~ the "Easter Sunday" religious equivalent of pagan "Christmas Eve" ~ I offer this bulletin as further proof that "Jesus Lives!

~Hugs~ Russ:))

I feel this is a great subject, Brandon, that you've picked.

I only started blogging the 1st of the year, also the day that I was destined to meet my "Born nearly deaf" bro', Jamal ~ who first introduced me to M ySpace and his otherwise unexplainable bass playing.

I've learned that names are infinitely important! The universal treasure chest is bulging with name gold nuggets. Within it's scriptures, God is quoted as having said "I called you by name."

Additional gospels, inspired writings, sacred texts, codes, enlightened translations and virtual volumes are being made public via The Good Shepherd's Internet ~ with its now heralded blogs. LOL

Now, as in all former times ~ His Sheep continue to be lovingly led ~ faithfully fed. Look at History. Just whose story do you suppose "History" chronicles?

Whereas the 1st book of Chronicles has been passed over as boring to the largely unenlightened masses ~ because of the seemingly senseless name after name, with little else ~ God was able to see an author publish a best seller titled The Prayer of Jabez ~ causing many of us to have a another look.

(NKJV) 1 Chronicles 4:10 and Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, "oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep (me) from evil, that I may not cause pain!" So God granted him what he requested.

You might enjoy learning how my 16 year old daughter, Cassiopeia, received her name.

I was 43 years old when her mother and I went out to dinner. As we sat waiting, I reached across the table to hold my then wife's hand. I noticed that her wrist was very thin. That's strange, I thought. Using my other hand, I was easily able to completely encircle her wrist with my thumb and first finger.

"Honey," I said, "Your wrist is really skinny, yet your tummy seems to be getting pretty big. Have you been feeling alright?" Receiving only a nod and a slight smile as a reply I asked, "Do you suppose that ~ just maybe ~ you could be pregnant?"

"Well, Russ," she said rather sheepishly, "I've kinda been wondering that actually."

You might be thinking that she should have known? Especially, when you understand that when I met her at PWP. (Parents Without Partners) This woman was already the mother of two daughters.

I attended my first meeting without my 10 year old son, Douglas. I knew the moment that she arrived at the PWP business meeting late and stopped at the mirror to shake the rain from her blond hair, that I wanted this woman. Yup! That was the very day that my 2nd divorce was final. And, yeah, you know why I was there.

After our dinner, I said, "Honey, I've got a Doppler in the car. Lets go home and try it on your tummy. I think we can figure it out. There are instructions with it."

At that time, I was just started trying to get going again in a durable medical equipment business that I'd started. A Doppler is an instrument used to check veins for blood clots by sound. At least, that was the reason that I marketed it to Doctors. They used the Doppler in conjunction with my principal medical product.

We wasted no time in our dash for home. Headset already on, I opened the tube of gel, smearing a glob onto my wife's mammoth mound.... LOL

"WOW! It sounds like we've got a little pony trotting around in there, Honey! Would you like to be the 2nd human being on this planet to listen to our baby's heart beat?"

Both a home pregnancy test ~ that night ~ and a not thrilled MD ~ the following morning ~ confirmed what we had already delightfully discovered. Now, we even had our 1st New baby picture.

We didn't have much time so we started talking about baby names immediately after laughing about the doctor's attitude upon arriving home.

We'd hardly begun, when my wife said, " Russ, hang on...you've got to see this!" She dashed off to return with a book by the televangelist, Marilyn Hickey."This lady minister says that God has written His plan of salvation in the Earth, in the hearts of His people, and in the heavens... You know, Russ, the stars."

"Yeah, but what dos that have to do with packing a name out for our baby?" I asked, a little irritated.

" Russ," she replied, recognizing my frustration. "I know that we are having a boy ~ but look at this, Cassiopeia. Wouldn't this ~ The Bride Of Christ Constellation ~ make a wonderful name for a girl?"

"WOW! I agreed." If we ever have a girl, she's already got a name. LOL But, the Dr. says that we've having a boy, Honey. So, what do you think about a couple of these?"

I'm sure that I had some pretty good names picked out. Yet, at this moment, I can't remember any of them.

When Cassiopeia landed in my hands, the midwife said, "Say hello to your new daughter, Daddy! Now, hold her real still there a few moments... God, she's beautiful!"

Unannounced ~ Cassie arrived on New Years Day 2006 ~ to live with her again single Dad, as God has also directed. LOL

After sharing nearly twenty years of our Earth~Lives with Cassie's mother, we are still friends.

When my ~ yet to meet wife and I have our son, I'm going to name him "Miles." Yup! "Miles Miles." My wife can pick out his middle name.

The Meaning of Baby Names

The Origin of names

A baby's first name is often referred to as "given name". As opposed to a family name which one inherits, this name is given to them, usually by their parents.
In most of the world ones given name is generally used before their last or family name, but in some countries like Japan, Hungary, China and others — the family name is used prior to the given name. In some cultures even the first name might have a part which is shared among all family members.

Where do first names originate from?

The most elaborate and extensive source of names has always been the bible. Sara, David and Samuel are a few examples, while many other names originate in the New Testament. Hebrew names, coming from the Old Testament are often containing the element "el" meaning god. For example — Michael (Who is like god), Azriel (The lord is my help)

Some names are derived from Aramic, such as Batholomew, Thomas and more.

Another common source are names of occupations, which the person or their ancestors possessed. For example — George means farmer, Kaufmann means a man who handles money.

Personal traits — names like Hope, Faith, and others. The Hebrew name "Eitan" means strong and solid. The name "Hiroshi" means generous in Japanese. The name Linda means beautiful in Spanish.

Names of places — Paris, London, Brittany and Florence are good examples.

Names stemming in literature / fictional characters — The name Wendy was first used and also created in "Peter pan" by J..M. Barrie.

Names from nature — Lilly, Rose and more.

Greek names — From greek mythology or history. Some but not all names from the Greek culture have been modified into the English language — Jason, Lucas, Marina, Katherine are examples.

Names which are words in the English language — some times in a varied way of spelling — Coral, Brooke, Scarlet.

Male names made feminine — For example Charlotte, Stephanie and Michaela

Names for twins. The name Thomas means twin. When twins are born they will often e given similar sounding names or names with a common source like names of flower, or biblical names.

Names influenced by modern culture — Today many names are given to babies after a famous person's choice for their baby — For example the name Kayla, which was one of the characters in a famous soap opera became very popular with the show's success.

Another growing trend today is naming a child originally, by combining two names together or choosing a nice sounding name without a specific origin to it, in order to be unique.

Other sources: Surnames made into given names, Names of months (April, August etc.), names of objects — for example — the name Peter means rock. European names such as Albert, Norbert, Henry (German).
Many names have an unknown source.

It is a good idea to use the internet as a source of ideas for baby names. The site site babyhold.com contains many tools that will assist you in choosing the right name for your baby. The site lists the most popular baby names by year, and also offers many ideas for unique baby names, baby names from different origins, baby names by country ( i.e. American baby names, Italian baby names etc) and many baby names lists organized by category. The 'Most Popular' Baby-names, Personal-names, and Family-names in Turkey

Of 70 million Turks living in Turkey, more than 4% (3 million) were named either Mehmet (male) or Fatma (female) at birth!

According to the latest statistics gathered and published by the Turkish Citizenship Bureau's Directorate, there are now 1,537,458 males named Mehmet among living males in Turkey. The personal-name Mustafa follows Mehmet with 1,195,232 recorded occurrences -- then come the personal-names Ahmet, Ali, and Hseyin.

As for the ladies... at the top of the popular personal-names list is Fatma -- which collected 1,529,179 'votes'. Ayse followed Fatma at 1,161,016 uses -- with Emine, Hatice, and Zeynep rounding out the top five most popular names.

Baby names have begun changing in the past 15 years -- with new baby-names beating out old names for popularity. For example, when you just consider male and female children born between 1990 and 2000... for the first time, the name Emre (for boys) and Bsra and Merve for girls -- have appeared among the top 5 baby-names. And if you only consider the period 2000-2005, Furkan (for boys) and Irem (for girls) are baby-names that have appeared in the top 5, also for the first time.

Turkish Family Names

According to the same statistics, the family-name Yılmaz is 'Top of the Pops' -- being the surname used by 1,025,196 families. The 'Yilmaz' surname is followed in 'popularity' by Kaya, Demir, Sahin, and elik.

So...We guess that makes 'Fatma and Mehmet Yilmaz' the Turkish equivalent of 'Mary and John Doe'...eh?

What's With Celebrity Baby Names?

It seems that the days of naming your son or daughter with your own name and adding a second, third or a fourth sign in roman numerals at the end are fading away. This seems to be especially the case with celebrities. The more unique, the better! As to whether celebrities are simply a little loopy, or whether they simply like the attention that a unique baby name will bring, we do not know. What we do know is that the names just keep getting crazier and crazier. Below is a list of some of our favorite celebrity baby names over the years.

Banjo - Patrick & Rachel Griffiths. This choice of name was based on the main character from 'The man who came to dinner'.

Apple - Gwyneth Paltrow & Chris Martin. We don't even think the parents understand why they chose this name!

Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lilly, Fifi Trixibelle, Peaches Honeyblossom - Paula Yates. Definetely three of the most 'out there' names in the history of baby names!

Jett - John Travolta & Kelly Preston. Well, John has always loved airplanes, so we'll let them get away with this one.

Zowie - David Bowie. Doesn't seem that bad, until you realise that with the last name it makes "Zowie Bowie".

Rumer Glenn, Tallulah Belle, Scout LaRue - Bruce Willis & Demi Moore. At least there are some normal names mixed in there, but still among our craziest!

Daisey Boo - Jamie Oliver. Typical celebrity, had to chuck in the "Boo" at the end.

Pilot Inspektor - Scott Lee & Beth Riesgrat. This kid is going to have a hard time at school.

Milo - Ricky Lake. This is okay, just so long as she doesn't name her second child "Otis".

Elijah Bob Patricius Guggi Q - Bono. Bono had definetely put some thought into this one!

Prince Michael, Prince Michael II, Paris Michael - Michael Jackson. We think this is just too many Michaels for one house hold.

Dexter, Diane Keaton. Only just acceptable for a boy, but would you believe this is her daughters name?

Moon Unit, Ahmet Emuukha Roden, Dreezil, Diva - Frank Zappa. Once again, among the craziest baby names in history.

Ocean, True, Sonnet - Forest Whitaker. We dont't mind the name Sonnet, but you can make your own mind up on the other two.

Betty Kitten, Honey Kinney, Harvey Kirby - Jane Goldman & Jonathan Ross. We wouldn't name our kids these names, but they do have a nice ring to them.

Biblical Baby Names -- A Treasure Trove For Expectant Parents

I recently had the opportunity to conduct a short but fascinating print interview with Judith Tropea, author of the recently-published book, "Classic Biblical Baby Names - Timeless Names for Modern Parents."

At the outset, I was struck by a quotation from the book's introduction -- a quotation from Proverbs, 22:1, "A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches." Rather a bold statement, I thought, especially when many of us hold "great riches" in such high esteem!

What is there to say about a biblical name, or any name for that matter, that could make it so important? After all, isn't a name just a name? As Shakespeare said, "what's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet."

But would it?

In her book, Judith Tropea notes that "Names are an integral part of our identity. A child's name affects his or her self-perception and reflects the parents' beliefs and cultures. A name pays tribute to the individual spirit and is one of the first wonderful gifts you can offer your child." When I asked her about this during our conversation, she said "A biblical name gives a baby a connection to spirituality that may be a springboard to finding spirituality later in life."

I think that's a pretty good reason for prospective parents to consider the names in the bible. and see what a treasure trove of names might be between the covers.

At my urging, Judith Tropea came up with 3 suggestions each for boy's and girl's names from the bible that are a little out of the ordinary, and that carry a positive spiritual message. For girls, the names were Dannah, Ivah, and Zaccai. For boys, Asher, Barak, and Jakim. I grabbed my copy of her book to see what the meanings and spiritual significance of these names might be.

The name Dannah literally means "judging." It signifies a woman who stands for justice and fair play. Ivah means "overturning," and it is a reminder that faith can move mountains. Zaccai means "just," or "seeker of justice." I was beginning to understand what the author meant about names affecting our self-perception.

The boy's name Asher means "happy" or "blessed." Barak, a name currently very prominent because of the senator from Illinois, means' "flash of lightning," and the spiritual connotation is "powered by God." Jakim means "God lifts up," and it symbolizes a man who lives his life as an example to other people.

Quite a remarkable group of names. "Classic Biblical Baby Names" is filled with examples of names like these, spelling out their literal and spiritual meanings, and how the names crop up in different biblical stories. Some of the names are quite well known, such as Adam, Paul, or Elizabeth; others, like Darius or Calah, are much more obscure. After my conversation with Judith Tropea, I found myself wanting to dig into her book more, to see what other little-known names and meanings are lurking in there.

I also found myself in the odd position of having to disagree with Shakespeare. Much as the great Bard knew his stuff, on this point I think he was mistaken -- a rose, by any other name, sometimes may not smell as sweet.

Picking the Best Baby Name

Parents are often busy picking the best car seat, attending childbirth classes, or preparing the nursery but when it comes to naming their child, it is usually done in a few minutes or at most a couple of weeks.

How do you begin when choosing a baby name? Start off by purchasing a few baby name books or going to your local library. There are also dozens of websites that list baby names. Most of these resources will not only list names but their meaning, origins and sometimes most common nicknames for that particular name as well. Most of the websites also have search engines so you can look up certain names and see their meanings and origins without doing lot of research.

Write down all the names you like along with their meanings, origins and possible nicknames. Begin mixing the names back and forth forming first and middle names. When you come up with some combinations you like, put these with your baby's last name to see how they sound together. Write these names down to see how they appear on paper. Discuss with your spouse about the names you have chosen. If you have some combinations both of you like, this is the time to ask others what their opinions are of the names. Keep an open mind and expect comments to be both good and bad.

When choosing a name it is important to consider how the name will affect your child when he or she is an adult. Some names may be cute or sweet for a newborn baby but might be humiliating for a teenager or adult. Think about how the name will look on a business card or other business stationery. Does it look professional or like a joke? Your child has to live with this name forever so be sure to think of their future, since they will be an adult longer than they will be a child.

Make sure to consider all possible nicknames. If you really like a certain name but can't stand a certain nickname associated with it, you may need to reconsider. You don't want to spend all your time correcting everyone who refers to your child by the nickname you can't stand. This would be a daily occurrence and it's not worth it.

With ultrasound tests being performed on most women, chances are you know if you are having a girl or a boy. Sometimes these tests are not always accurate so be prepared with baby names for both sexes. This way, at the time of birth you already have a name and do not have to rush this process to come up with something.

Usually everyone has a different opinion about the name you have chosen especially family members. They will often have their suggestions and know exactly what you should name your baby. However, keep in mind that although it can be fun and interesting to hear their opinions, it is your baby and the name is your decision. You will not make everyone happy, it's just not possible.

Build Your Self-Esteem, A Start To Self-Improvement

In life, it's hard to stay tough specially when things and people around you keep pulling you down. When we get to the battle field, we should choose the right armors to use, and pick those that are bullet proof. Life's options give us arrays of more options. Along the battle, we will get hit and bruised. And wearing bullet proof armor ideally means ‘self change'. The kind of change which comes from within.

Sometimes, you may wonder if some people are born leaders or positive thinkers. NO. Being positive, and staying positive is a choice. Building self esteem and drawing lines for self improvement is a choice, not a rule or a talent.

So how do you stay calm, composed and maintain self esteem in a tough environment? Here are some tips you may to consider as a starter guide to self improvement.

Negative Work Environment

Beware of "dog eat dog" theory where everyone else is fighting just to get ahead. This is where non appreciative people usually thrive. No one will appreciate your contributions even if you miss lunch and dinner, and stay up late. Stay out of this. It will ruin your self esteem. Competition is at stake anywhere. Be healthy enough to compete, but in a healthy competition that is.

Other People's Behavior

Bulldozers, gossip mongers, whiners, back stabbers, snipers, people walking wounded, controllers, naggers, complainers, exploders, patronizes . . . all these kinds of people will pose bad vibes for your self esteem, as well as to your self improvement scheme.

Changing Environment

Changes challenge our paradigms. It tests our flexibility, adaptability and alters the way we think. Changes will make life difficult for awhile, it may cause stress but it will help us find ways to improve our selves. Change will be there forever. We must be susceptible to it.

Past Experience

It's okay to cry and say ouch, when we experience pain. But don't let pain transform itself into fear. It might grab you by the tail and swing you around. Treat each failure and mistake as a life lesson and building block.

Negative World View

Look at what you're looking at. Don't wrap yourself up with all the negative elements of the world. In building self esteem, we must learn how to make the best out of worst situations.

Determination Theory

The way you are and your behavioral traits are said to be a mixed end product of your inherited traits (genetics), your upbringing (psychic), and your environmental surroundings such as your spouse, the company, the economy or your circle of friends. You have your own identity. If your father is a failure, it doesn't mean you have to be a failure too. Learn from other people's experience, so you'll never have to encounter the same mistakes.

Self esteem brings about self improvement, true assessment, and determination. So how do you start putting up the building blocks of self esteem? Be positive. Be contented and happy. Be appreciative. Never miss an opportunity to compliment. Being positive in life will help you build self esteem, and be a starter guide to self improvement.

6 Vital Points To Choose Baby Names Wisely

Choosing the right name from birth has an important impact on a person's life. It's about choosing an identity for your baby. Ever heard about the association of a person's name with his personality? A name molds a person's character like a cookie-cutter, and this holds true to varying degree in different cultures. So, better get that best baby name for your son or daughter.

Here are some tips on how to confer that best baby name for your little love.

1. Meanings, meanings, meanings

You certainly don't want your baby to be stuck with a name that will forever ridicule him or will allow his playmates to make a big laughing stock out of him. Learn the meaning of the baby name you are eyeing to give to your baby. Don't think Beelzebub is a prospective baby name just because you heard it from a TV show and you find it cute. Just plainly saying yes to your gut feel, trying to follow a fad by naming your baby a certain celebrity's (sometimes notorious) or NOT THINKING AT ALL in giving your precious one his or her baby name are definite no-nos!

2. Don't Get Too Creative

Don't go for the overkill. Being too creative on thinking of a baby name can backfire. Examples are too unique spellings. It will be hard for the kid to keep on spelling his or her name to people who only know the familiar spelling of such name.

3. Two Heads Are Better Than One

Discuss with your partner when choosing the best baby name for your adorable baby. It wouldn't be nice to always get blamed when people ask who chose that terrible baby name. Sharing on this kind of decision-making is a good way of furthering your bond as a pair, not to mention the possibility of coming up with a better baby name.

4. Think On Your Own

Choosing the right baby name does not have to always rely on what your elderly relatives think to be the best baby name. It is your baby's name, not theirs. Once your baby is born he will be stuck with that baby name for life. That means it's not sensible to just settle for any baby name that will match your grandma's or auntie's taste.

5. Be Careful With Initials

Consider reading the initials of the baby name you are planning to give your baby. Be certain they don't stand for something hilarious, disturbing or something totally silly. Christine Sue Irving? What will happen on the next episode of CSI? Alvin Stephen Stuart? He'll surely remember not to get near any hole. Fran Ursula Catherine Klein? Uh-oh! Can you picture the sickening situation you may put your baby into when he or she grows up?

6. How About Your Family Tree

Go verify your family tree once and for all. Some can't still get away from some traditions about baby name decisions, especially when they have a special link with a certain family member that they want that person's name to be a part of their baby's name. If you're planning to follow the tradition of putting a part of your elder relatives' names on your baby's name, you have to know whether anybody else in your family use that name too. Ask around.

The above are some of the vital points that should be considered in your quest for the perfect baby name. You might find them a bit demanding. But in the long run, you'll see that doing your research will make your baby thank you when the right time comes.

Bless Your Child With The Name

What a dreamer I am when thinking about parenthood. Most of the time, I do this without knowing to whom my heart will belong and who will share that sacred responsibility. Even though, I am connected with the billions of souls that have always faced the stars at night to decide on what would be the perfect name for our not-yet-conceived little angels

“If is a boy… I'll name him…; or if is a girl… I'll name her…” And yes, it is far more important to ask the spirits for the baby to come healthy, but at least our children should have the right to know when people outside the family are referring to them.

Although I've heard some funny names, I am not in a position to say that any parent wasn't serious enough. On the contrary, I prefer to forward some ideas to socially bless your angels forever.

Start with the stars

Astrology gives each newborn the beginning and end dates of the twelve Sun signs. Originally referred to as Star Sign, a Sun Sign represents the Zodiac Sign that the Sun is in at the time of birth. The Sun rules willpower and ego, that is: who you are and what you are about.

Now if you are gratefully expecting — and men also are part of this experience -, then you may start reading the birth chart with the Eighth House, where conception begins. During the nine months of pregnancy, the cycle travels from the beginning of the Eighth House to the ascendant, which represents the moment of birth, the baby's first breath. Using this method, the First House represents babyhood, the next house represents childhood, the next one is the teen years, and so on.

Personality

Many elements may form our children's personality, from our way of raising them to the experiences that they'll have to spirituality itself. But before you ask why little Prudence is picky; why Casey doesn't allow brothers to play with him; or why Alma 's apprenticeship takes too much, let me remind you that astrology plays a fundamental role here. For instance, the Zodiac Sun Sign calendar brings enlightenment even to the most uninformed mind. After reading it, there is a brief description on each Sun Sign and their influence on our baby's behavior.

These are the dates that correspond to the Sun Sign for 2005. Realize that the dates can vary from year to year.

March 21 — April 19 Aries
April 20 — May 20 Taurus
May 21 — June 21 Gemini
June 22 - July 22 Cancer
July 23 — August 22 Leo
August 23 — September 22 Virgo
September 23 — October 22 Libra
October 23 — November 21 Scorpio
November 22 — December 21 Sagittarius
December 22 - January 19 Capricorn
January 20 — February 18 Aquarius
February 19 — March 20 Pisces

Aries : Spirits in the sky give this Fire Sign baby so much energy that parents must channel it with lot of love. Also, the Aries baby can be quite independent but enjoys interacting with others.

Taurus : Playthings will be very important to this Earth Sign baby because it rules the second house (possessions), so parents should try to make him/her comfortable but grounded at the same time.

Gemini : Will be curious, creative, the speaker of groups, but loving parents need to stimulate this Air Sign baby for him/her to be happy, as their character is mutable.

Cancer : This Water Sign baby is very creative but also is all about feelings. He/she needs to feel protected and will easily pick up any bad vibes in the household.

Leo : A totally determined force, this Fire Sign baby will be a leader. Parents will get loads of fun, but less of sleep in the meantime.

Virgo : This Earth Sign tot doesn't require a lot to be happy. It's a perfectionist and happy to help others. Although it has a mutable character, it's a pretty good kid.

Libra : Here could be the next lawyer or judge. This Air Sing baby displays its social and diplomat qualities when surrounded in groups.

Scorpio : This is quite the manipulative little Water Sign tot, is also a bit mysterious, making it hard to figure out what's wrong when the crying starts.

Sagittarius : Independent and free-spirited, this Fire Sign baby explores everything, whether it's a new toy or a new friend. Parents, be ready to have your house full of little friends.

Capricorn : Rule by the Earth Sign, this tot will be creative and determined. They also understand things better as they get older and appreciate the merits of a reward system.

Aquarius : The companionship of friends and others will be quite important to this Air Sign baby, even if they don't know how to demonstrate it. For that reason, this is a pattern of behavior that should be encouraged.

Pisces : C hangeable in character, this Water Sign baby is a dreamer by nature and it benefits from an added dose of attention, whether it comes from parents or sibs.

Baby Names - Naming Techniques

How do you even begin the process of naming your baby? Where do you start? Do you crack open a book with tens of thousands of names? Just pick a name out of the air? This article will provide you with some popular techniques for naming your child and hopefully save you a ton of stress.

First, there is the classic tradition of naming your child after a relative. If you're planning on going down this route, you probably already have a specific name in mind. If you're going with a junior, be sure to consider giving the child a unique middle name that they can attach their identity too. Remember to be careful not to offend any relatives when you choose your name.

You may also look for names which have a special meaning to you and your spouse. The meaning of a name was very important in ancient times and continuing this tradition may be something you're interested in. Names with religious roots or names that represent an important quality are very popular. Name meanings can be found in numerous books and throughout the internet. Be sure to check with multiple sources, as not all resources are accurate.

Some parents want their child to have a name with a certain ethnic origin. Perhaps your grandparents had to give up their ethnic sounding names when they came to America and you'd like to honor their heritage. Ethnic names are usually listed in baby name books and many website also have this information available. Websites often let you search for a specific ethnicity which can be very convenient. Be wary of the potential inaccuracies of some of these sites, however.

Finally, and easily the most popular method, is to pick a name that has a good sound to it. Ultimately, this is a very important factor to consider even if you're choosing a name based on its meaning or historical origin. Your child will have to live with their name and if it sounds funny, you can bet they're going to hear about it as they grow up. They may even go by another name if they don't like the way their given name sounds.

No matter which method you choose, always remember that it's your child's name and you should put them first. In the end, your child's personality will vastly outshine any name you pick for them.

Baby Names

Both legend and lore make references to heroes, villains, gods, and prophets by specific names. When this trend started is not known, but in ancient times people were known after the place where they lived, their family name, and sometimes their profession. Over time, many names and their meanings sank into oblivion. However, most cultures had and still have a definite system in place, and many royal families and rulers were named after their illustrious ancestors.

Subsequently, the practice of naming children after saints, martyrs, angels, divinities, and the gods themselves became the vogue. Missionaries of the church and other religions were instrumental in encouraging the faithful to name their progeny after role models found in the scriptures.

The system became more complex, and by the 12th century a person did not just have a name but a byname or surname which could refer to the father, mother, location, occupation, or status. The surname was later adopted as the family name and carried through generations. So a man could be called Shepherd or Wright or Mackenzie, meaning son of Kenneth.

Over the years the system of naming has been retained unchanged in some cultures and families, while others have changed the system altogether and name babies after events, flowers, gems, love songs, and celebrities.

A few truly believe that when a child is born the whole universe resonates with a sound that forms the name of the child. Names, like other aspects of life, are thus predestined. Whatever your beliefs, you could keep in mind a few simple rules when naming a child. Make a list of names you like. Then call out each name aloud; this will help you decide on which ones sound pleasing. Next, check how compatible the name is with the family name or surname. Avoid choosing a first name ending with a vowel if the last name begins with a vowel. Also, never foist on a child a long first name that is followed by an even longer surname.

Think hard before naming your child. Choose an unusual name if the surname is commonplace, like Smith. But ensure the name can be remembered and pronounced by most people. Check the meaning of all the names you are short listing. Add if you like a touch of heritage or tradition by choosing a name that stems form your ethnic background or culture.

Be wise and try and see what nicknames a particular name may attract–school and peer teasing can be hurtful.

Strategies for Choosing a Name for Your Baby

What's in a Name?

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose

By any other word would smell as sweet."

--From Romeo and Juliet (II, ii, 1-2)

Of course, new mothers and fathers know that there is a world of difference in naming your baby "Rose" as opposed to "Skunkcabbage." When it comes to naming your baby, names do matter — and you want to choose the one that means the most to you. Parents may choose a name for its meaning, for its cadence, or for its history. No matter what you decide to name your baby, always consider the child.

Before you put the name on the birth certificate, ask yourself if the name is easy to spell, if the child will get teased, if the child will even like his or her own name. Your baby's name is not only important to you, but also to your baby.

Strategies for Choosing a Name for Your Baby

Before you go name-hunting, you want to think about the kind of names you want for your baby. Are you going to choose a name that has been in your family for generations? Are you going to name your child after a favored television or movie star? Some parents name their children after favorite characters from books.

If there are names that you like, jot them down. When you hear a name that strikes a chord with you, write it down and keep all your potential names together in a notebook. You can cross off names that you decide not to use, and narrow down your list little by little. If you hear a name that you like, don't be afraid to ask how it's spelled. Write down any name that sounds good to you. Later, you and your spouse can discuss the names on the list.

Baby books and Internet sites abound that are filled with baby names. On some sites, you can look up names to find out what they mean, or what their origins are. Some people like to know what their names mean, so you want to choose wisely if meaning holds any weight with you.

Your Baby's Name

While strategies for choosing a name for your baby may fill your head for many months, the name you choose for your baby will follow him or her for the rest of their life. You want to choose a name that sounds pleasant and that you think your child will like as much as you do. Remember, you're going to say that name many times in the next forty years or so — so choose wisely! Select a name that you, your baby and your family can live with. Consider its sound, because that is an important aspect of any name. Keep in mind that your baby's name is the very first thing that will define them as a person. Pick a name that means the most to you, and sounds the best to your ears. Take your time in choosing a name, and make sure that you and your spouse are both involved in strategies for choosing a name for your baby. Both parents should participate in the naming process, because babies cannot choose names for themselves.

Top 100 Baby Names and Helpful Tips To Consider When Naming Your Baby

Are you an expectant parent anxiously waiting for that little package of joy? Yet, you and your spouse are still looking for that perfect name? Well...fret no more! The list of the top 100 baby names may be the answer to your prayers.

Searching for your baby's name is loads of fun! Whether you're seeking a name for your soon-to-be baby boy or baby girl, you and your spouse should be curious about what names in the top 100 are currently hot.

What is particularly interesting is tracking the popularity of baby names over the decades. In looking through baby name lists from 1880 to the present, some amusing patterns emerge, particularly in regards to baby names for girls.

For example, in Victorian times, Biblical names such as Mary, Sarah and Ruth were very popular for baby girls. There were also many baby names that are now considered very old-fashioned like Martha, Alice, Bertha and Minnie.

From the 1920s to the 1950s certain baby names rose in popularity. These included names such as Susan, Debbie, Patricia, and Linda. All of these baby names have since waned, to be replaced, by the 1980s, with fancier names such as Jennifer, Jessica and Nicole.

However, according to the new top 100 baby names, there's been a lot of renewed interest in the more "old-fashioned" names like Hannah, Abigail and Ethan, plus many Biblical names such as Sarah, Rachel, Joshua, Jacob, and Samuel. There's also been a surge in nontraditional baby names including Madison, Ashley and Brianna for baby girls, and Brandon and Logan for baby boys.

When naming a baby there are, of course, many other points to consider besides how popular or unique a name is. Here are some helpful tips that you can use with your spouse and immediate family in choosing a name for the new baby and to make the process fun:

1. Baby names need to go nicely with the sound of your last name. Also, pick a first name and a middle name that go together well. (So maybe not something like Erasmus Beelzebub Jones!)

2. When your family finds a name you all like, observe the initials to be sure that you don't give your new baby a name with initials that will make people laugh or cause teasing by his or her peers. (For example: Pamela Iris Greer, which equals pig!)

3. You might not want a baby name that is so unusual that the other kids will make fun of your child in school which could result in low self esteem. So please do not be selfish when choosing a name.

4. You also might not want a baby name that is so trendy that it will sound funny by the time the baby is ten years old. (For example... Sunshine.)

5. Be careful not to pick a name that's really cute for an adorable little baby but will sound silly when your little one grows up. (For example, Dimples or Cutie Pie.)

6. Avoid baby names that might produce insulting nicknames when people shorten them. (So maybe not Smellonius, or Smelly for short !)

7. You and your family might not want a name that is so hard to spell or to pronounce that people will always get it wrong and therefore, your poor son or daughter will have to go through their entire life correcting people.

8. You and your family might want to pick baby names in honor of favorite relatives or ancestors, or special names that show your family's ethnic roots. You may even want to borrow a name from one of your favorite celebrities or sports athelete.

9. Study the top 100 baby names and choose one that has a special meaning that you like - maybe something that means "strong" or "kind" or "brave".

10. Look at your own family names and see if using any name combinations create unusual baby names you like. Ask other family members for their suggestions, even invite your friends to give you their opinions. Does a relative have a name you like? Be careful if the name is already being used. Ask other family members to be sure your favorite unusual baby names are not given to relatives. It can become confusing in families when two people have the same names.

Conclusion

Have fun and enjoy viewing the top 100 baby names when choosing your child's names. Celebrate the moment. You will find out it was worth every minute spent deciding upon that baby boy or baby girl name...a name that will identify them for their lifetime.

Unusual Baby Names - A Popular Trend

Parents today seem to be favoring unusual baby names. At one point in history, over half of the children born were given popular names. No more. Today's trend is to break with the traditional. Your picking a name because you love it, not because of what everybody else thinks of it.

A name is central to a child's earliest sense of identity. It's often the first word he or she learns to read and write. Naming trends of today are defined by celebrities, literary classics, and even name brands. Look no further than your favorite book, car, or brand for baby name ideas. Names like "Armani", "Del Monte", "Infiniti", "Celica", "Chevy", and "Lexus" are increasing in popularity.

So, how do you go about finding an unusual baby name? Believe it or not, celebrities are a great source of unusual baby names. There has recently been a major trend amongst celebrities choosing unusual names for their children. Julia Roberts named her twins Hazel and Phinnaeus. Demi Moore and Bruce Willis are the parents of Rumer Glenn, Scout LaRue and Tallulah Belle. Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay singer Chris Martin recently named their child Apple. Baby Names - Avoiding Family Conflict

Naming your baby is one of the most time consuming and frustrating processes leading up to the birth of your child. There are literally tens of thousands of choices. It is difficult enough to find one you are happy with, let alone one that both you and your spouse agree on. But that is nothing compared to what happens when you start to involve other family members.

This situation often occurs when you want to name your baby after a relative or close friend. Perhaps it is a tradition in your family to name children after a grandparent or you simply want to celebrate a favorite relative. Although the intention is good, conflict will certainly arise and feelings will get hurt. As if you didn't have enough to worry about, right?

So how can you handle these difficult family situations? First, remember that it's your baby and, thus, your choice. If you and your spouse agree, that should be sufficient. However, this hard nosed attitude will do little to repair offended aunts and uncles. Naturally, the best course is to keep relatives from being offended in the first place.

A good method is to make an announcement to your family explaining your choice. If people hear it straight from you it's less likely to offend anyone. The family gossip train is notorious for exaggerations. Also, this keeps people from feeling slighted since you took the time to explain things in a non-confrontational way.

Finally, a good course of action is just to keep it secret until the baby is born and people get to see and hold your child. Who will care about family squabbles when the precious child is in their arms. Waiting for this moment will keep the silly name argument from gathering steam and will keep the focus on what matters: your beautiful new child.

Don't let family conflict keep you from honoring a relative or giving your baby the name you want. Keep the focus on your child and go out of your way to appease needy relatives. In the end, you'll be glad you maintained your family relationships. Someone has to watch the baby when you're out, right?

When I prototypal institute conceive we were expecting twins, I had no intent how we were feat to flourishing to wage sufficiency clothes for both of them! Two female showers later, I had more female clothes than I knew what to do with, and I was struggling with disagreeable to encounter somewhere to tending everything.

I conventional as gifts whatever mixed sizes of female clothes, from infant every the artefact to toddler. Friends and kinsfolk members who institute conceive we were expecting also gave us whatever pleasant hand-me-downs. I apace realized I wasn't feat to effect to acquire whatever clothes for our boys for quite whatever time! After hunting over every the clothing, I definite it would be easiest to tending the clothes by sizes.

I prototypal decent everything and categorised every the concealment by sizes. I then went to Walmart and bought whatever rattling inexpensive super impressible hardware containers to accumulation super sizes.

The boys effect digit dressers in their bedroom. I filled digit stop with infant filler clothes, and the additional stop with filler 3-6 months. Dress female in icebox materials, with beatific ventilation, but assist analyse to attain trusty baby's extremities are warm.

No concern what temperature it is, baby's concealment should earmark liberated shitting of every part's of the child's body. Clothes that are likewise dripless could revilement soured circulation to a conception of baby's body. This is specially genuine erst female is acquisition to organisation over and then creeping - he needs to be flourishing to do those things without existence restricted by clothing. Dresses haw countenance rattling pretty on your female girl, but crapper be extremely arduous to creeping in.

The touchable the concealment is prefabricated from is also important. Baby's harm is rattling sensitive, and rougher materials crapper drive irritation. You also haw encounter using a direct female purifying is prizewinning when effect baby's clothes, as it is also inferior probable to drive botheration and rashes.

Your baby's concealment shouldn't effect likewise whatever decorations, aforementioned ribbons or super buttons. If these items embellish detached, they could be a strangulation hazard.

Remember, too, that lots of babies don't aforementioned having their garment or clothes changed. So anything that crapper stop attain the effect hurried and cushy is worth having in the wardrobe. I ever had loads of female jumpsuits or every in ones in my baby's wardrobe. These had snaps or imbibe studs from the cervix every the artefact downbound to the knees. That meant it was doable to modify the garment without having to vanish such clothing, but at the aforementioned happening it was cushy to vanish the flooded garment and modify it in exclusive a whatever seconds. The additional abstract I likeable most these was how easily you could add layers of concealment or blankets over the crowning if female was a discernment cold, and vanish them if female was hot.

I Can't Believe My Parents Called Me That!

I’ve known plenty of people with odd names in my life. There’s James C. Bond, Richard Small (Dick Small) and even an Elvis. None of them have, as far as I’m aware, killed or disowned their parents yet, but that doesn’t mean there’s not still time for it. These people have to listen to the same jokes off close to everyone they meet: it’s only a matter of time before one of them does snap.

Of course, for all the new generation of Brittanies, Cocos, Darths and Beyonces there is a way out. It might seem drastic but changing your name by deed poll or statutory declaration is a realistic and easily achievable option. For a very reasonable price countless internet companies can see you through the process, with advice on any confusion that may arise. Yes, your parents might get upset and your friends be confused at first, but sometimes anything is better than a lifetime of bullying, sniggers and misery. Things your parents should have very much thought about before choosing your name to begin with.

Of course, it’s always wise to think before making the other move too. I know someone who changed her name by deed poll to the fictional heroine of Gaston Leroux’s “The Phantom Of The Opera” Christine Daae. Oh well, there’s no accounting for taste!

Picking the Best Baby Name

Those who are about to become proud parents can often have a lot of trouble picking the best baby names for their new bundle of joy. It is a very difficult task in this modern age in which just about every name and number under the sun is up for grabs. Parents have named their kids such notable monomers as Moon Unit or Apple and while many people are still using names that stand out less you can usually pick a common name with a little flair, but which one.

You can get a start on attacking the issue of the baby’s name by writing down a list of all the names that you like and you can think of. Don’t worry about where it comes from or what context you heard it in just write it down so you don’t forget it. These can be names of places, old names of family members, feelings, and even the common everyday names we usually come across. That way you have a list of all the names you could possible conceive of ever using for your child.

From there go over the names with your spouse and analyze them. Is one name so popular that every time you call your child’s name in public a bunch of heads will turn? How does the name sound when it rolls of your tongue, especially when used with the surname? Will a name lead to unfortunate nicknames in elementary school, such as Bubba? Do you want a gender neutral name or do you want everyone to know what sex your child is when looking at the name?

After you’ve crossed off names that may have seemed perfectly fine when picked but after analysis seem inappropriate you should be left with at most a potential dozen names. Although usually parents can narrow it down much more. There may even be one or two names that have been popping out at you from the very beginning of the name selection process. You will likely carry this list of final names around with you for a while because you and your spouse will be at odds, with you favoring one name and your spouse favoring another. Eventually a little nagging will help you pick out a final name.

Irish Baby Names - History and Origin

The meaning of baby names of irish origin lies
hundreds of years back in the Irish gaelic language
of the ancient Celts who migrated from Central Europe
before the foundation of the Roman Empire.

The Celts Dominant

Those Celts who came to Britain, France and Ireland
were dominant for a long period. With the spread of
the Roman Empire, the Celts gradually were pushed back
into North Western France (modern Brittany with its
distinct Breton language), Western Britain (Cornwall
and Wales), Northern Britain (Isle of Man and Scotland),
and the island of Ireland which was never conquered by
the Romans.

As a result of Ireland's separate development from Roman
influence, the gaelic language and way of life was much
less diluted than in Scotland or Wales. Again the influence
of the Anglo-Normans and later the English was less in
Ireland because of the difficulty of establishing control
in the country other than a few coastal towns such as
Dublin.

The English kings' governor sat in Dublin Castle issuing
edicts against native Irish habits in dress, custom and
language, only to have them ignored in about 80% of the
country with the exception of the areas around Dublin
called The Pale where the English army held sway.

Gradual English Control

This situation continued for hundreds of years until the
English asserted an uneasy control at the end of the 17th
century with the defeat of James 11 at the Battle of the
Boyne by William of Orange (the Dutch Protestant prince who
was offered the English throne by Parliament)in 1690.

So the first name origins of Irish Christian names and
surnames lie overwhelmingly in this gaelic Celtic culture
which was totally dominant until the end of the 19th century.
Only at this point do we see English culture making inroads
in language, games and of course in first name origins.

In fact, this was not voluntary as primary schools were
established in all the major towns from the 1830's onwards
where English was the only language of instruction and Irish
gaelic was forbidden.First name origins of Celtic descent
gradually declined and English baby names became popular for
the first time.

Irish Revival

By the end of the 19th century, Irish was in crisis and
English totally dominant in all the commercial, legal and
cultural spheres of Irish life. At this time organisations
to stem the English tide were established such as the Gaelic
Athletic Association(to foster the games of hurling and
gaelic football), and the Gaelic League to prevent the
decline of the Irish language.

This brings us up to the present where the meaning of baby
names of most first names in Ireland are English in origin or
anglicisations of native Irish names. This bilingual melange
will continue. It remains to be seen whether first name origins
of Irish gaelic ancestry will increase as they have been doing,
or whether the sea of Anglo-American influence will predominate.

Baby Names for the New Generation

When it comes to choosing names for your baby, you want the perfect fit. But before you scour the globe, the Internet, and the baby name books for the perfect thing to call your little tyke, why not start with the tree in your own backyard? Specifically, your family tree.

As a genealogist, I forcibly persuaded my husband to work with me in choosing names from our past. Some of the names we have chosen are recent. My first child was named for my mother and my grandmother. My second child was named for, well, my husband. My third child was named for my adopted grandfather and my grandfather.

But if these names are unacceptable — I am not willing to work with my husband’s grandparents names, Emeron and Stella (as if I could talk with a grandfather named Styrle Iretone) — you can search further into your past. Did you have a great aunt you were close to? Can your grandparents tell you stories about their grandparents that make you think these folks were after your own heart? Oftentimes, stories from your relatives will make you feel closer to the people you have descended from. My heart will always warm towards my great-grandfather, William Ellett, who wrote the most beautiful love letters to his wife-to-be while he was away. Perhaps you — like most Americans — have antecedents who showed great courage as they left their country and their family behind to follow dreams of a new life. You would not be who you are today without their vision — what better way to honor them than by connecting them to your child?

With only a few months to go, you may not have time to sift through information, trying to find out details about your family’s past. Check with your older relatives to see if there is another genealogist in the family, a book that has been printed. Look online to determine if any research has been placed there. If all else fails, you can pay to have your genealogy done. Many researchers can turn up details beyond names and date to give your relations more personality.

The birth of a new baby is a time to look to the future. But just like you don’t want your child to ever fully leave your family, your ancestors wanted to be connected to your generation, as well. Why not connect to them in a way that will keep them alive for years to come?

Picking the Perfect Name for Your Baby

One of the most important decisions you will make once you find you are pregnant is that of picking the perfect baby name. Everyone has their own idea of what a great name is, sometimes it is as simple as whatever is currently fashionable as per the top 10 names for the country in the year that the baby is born, sometimes it's a family name that honors a favorite relative, and sometimes it's just a name that the mother (or father) really likes.

The baby name chosen will occasionally carry certain cultural significance. This happens often in the case of popular baby names as they are fashionable for a certain period of time and then the trend changes and so you can put babies with those names into a certain decade. Television, and to a lesser extent movies, can influence these trends as certain television shows have characters with names which are "different" and which parents like so this is added to the list of potential baby names. There are exceptions to this however, as there are some baby names which are timeless and have been handed down generation to generation throughout the family.

Whether or not to choose the baby name before the baby is born is a matter for personal preference. There are parents who decide what their baby's name will be from the moment they have the pregnancy confirmed - and in some cases, they know what baby names they will choose before they are even pregnant! Then there are other parents who wait until the baby is born before naming it. Sometimes this is because they can't agree on a name, or because they haven't found one they like, or sometimes just because they want to wait to see how the baby looks before naming it.

Once the baby is born, there's still time to pick the perfect baby name for your baby. Even if the name was decided months before the birth, it's possible that having seen the baby, the name will change. When you see your baby for the first time, and hold it in your arms, you may decide that the name chosen doesn't seem to fit with the baby you are looking at. Maybe the baby has more delicate features than the robust name chosen suggests, or vice versa. It's also possible that there was someone instrumental in bringing the baby into the world that you want to honor by naming your baby after them - and this won't be known until after the birth occurs.

Take time to choose the perfect name for your baby, and don't be afraid to change your mind at the last minute if you feel it's not quite appropriate, after all the baby is going to wear that name a long time!

Trying to be Unique with Baby Names

I don't think that most parents set out to give their babies bizarre names but sometimes it happens by accident in the 'nick name phase'.

My nephew's name is Brian Andrew and his father was adamant that no one shorten his son's name into 'Bry'. Somehow around his first birthday, the nick name 'Bubba' started and by the time he was entering pre-school, it had stuck. He was a solid little boy, but by no means chubby. I don't know how a Dad so opposed to a shortened name tolerated his son being called Bubba!

A few parents do choose unusual names. I babysat for a family of four children once in the 90s who named all of their children starting with the letter D. These children were named Destiny, Diamond, Dusty and Dinky.

Dinky was a boy too. Can you imagine that name on a grown man?

When I was young I wanted to have a boy and a girl and I planned to name them Dallas and Odessa. Then for a little while I thought Arista (like the record label) would be really cool name for a baby girl.

I've always appreciated names that buck the system. I can't imagine following the popular baby name trends and or choosing something really common like Heather or Ann or Robert or Bill.

One practice that leads to some odd baby names has grown in the last decade or so and that is taking common names and spelling them phonically. Stephanie becomes Stefanny.

When I asked a friend who planned named her son Sighman why she would want to take such a simple name as Simon and ruin it, she replied that she just wanted to do something unusual. I told her that if she followed through with it, that I would have to name my first son Airwreck.

Celebrity Baby Names: What's In A Name?

What is it with celebrities and what they name their babies?

Decades ago we had Frank Zappa, who named two of his kids Moon Unit and Dweezil — but we sort of expect that from a rock star, don’t we? To top it off, he named his other two kids Ahmet Emuukha Rodan and Diva — so at least in that family they all have rather unique names.

I admit that I thought it was pretty cool when Demi and Bruce named one of their daughters Scout, in honor of the young heroine from “To Kill A Mockingbird” — but then they went and named the other two Rumor and Tallulah Belle. Not sure why they did that — thankfully they seem like nice, normal kids.

No need to discuss what Michael Jackson named his children — that’s the least of his, or their worries, frankly.

I had a cat named Coco when I was a child, and now David and Courtney Cox Arquette have a daughter named Coco. And how about Apple for a name? Seriously, why would an Academy Award winning actress name her child Apple? Will Gwenyth name the one she’s expecting this spring Banana? Or maybe go with something from the vegetable family?

Don’t get me wrong — I think trying to find a unique name for your child is wonderful. There are more than enough Bob’s in the world right now (my husband being one of them). But aren’t there better ways of choosing a name for your baby than drawing a name out of a hat or trying to recall what you ate just before conception? And isn’t life already going to be hard enough for these celebrity kids without being saddled with bizarre names?

Not all celebrities have given their offspring strange names. Thankfully, Britney Spears named her son Sean, and Kate Winslet chose the simple, but strong, Joe for her son. And there are lots of celebrity sons named Jack and Henry out there, along with a few Grace and Samantha’s, so not all is lost.

But what I wonder is if celebrities know there are “Baby Naming” books out there to help them. Years ago we got one of those books when we considered starting a family. With the last name Ryder, of course we played around with some fun names — like Ezekiel Zechariah — E.Z. Ryder. Or Paperback. Maybe Horseback. But would we have actually done that? Of course not. Well, at least not Paperback or Horseback. Then, when we didn’t have children, we used the book to name our pets. We may be the only people in the world with a Siamese Cat named Dugan — and actually know what it means! And we used the book to offer “helpful” suggestions to family and friends.

These books are great — not only do you get thousands of possible names, you also get their heritage and meaning. So if any of you know Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, I have a suggestion for the perfect baby shower gift for them — a baby naming book. Or who knows what those two might come up with for a name. I shudder even thinking about it.

The Top 100 Baby Names Tell an Interesting Story

It’s interesting what story the top 100 baby names have to tell. Every few years you hear that new name popping up and you immediately know what everyone was watching on TV or who the nation’s hero was in sport a few years back.

Then you look at those names that remain constant, those that never get knocked off the winning post no matter what’s going on below. Take for instance, Jack has remained in top position (boys, UK) for 11 years, Jacob (boys, US) for seven years and Emily (girls, US) for 10 years.

I do wonder why people just follow a trend and go for the #1 in the top 100 it’s just like a best seller where the more people read something the more other people want to read the same book. Yet, for baby names, following the common line takes away an element of individuality, sometimes making one child feel the same as the next and taking away that little element that makes a child feel special.

Then there’s the really weird names which make you wonder how on earth so many people decided it was a good name for their baby. I was looking through the top 100 baby names (US) the other day and noticed Angel as #32, now Angel to me is a really weird name for a boy that I would detest being called as a lad but them obviously I’m well off the mark given it’s popularity.

At the end of the day people tend to have very differing opinions as to the best baby names and whether they should be common, unusual or down right weird. For me, a child should love their name it should make a statement and make them feel special. For me baby names should be chosen with care, not to popular, with an element of originality but never weird. Your baby has to live through life from childhood to grave and should love and be proud of the name they have been given and not made to feel one of a crowd or mocked and abused.

What's in a Name: Naming Your Baby

Does your baby really care what you call her? All she needs is milk, sleep and some comfort; and she will be fine.

Is a name important? Yes, in a way it is. Let us say you randomly choose a name for baby. Once your little one grows up, she might wish you had spent more time thinking about it.

Of course, there is no definite way to tell if she will eventually like the name, you give her. Yet, a little thoughtfulness and creativity will not hurt.

A few things to keep in mind while choosing a name for baby:

Put yourself in your child's shoes.

Try to give baby a name that you would like having.

Make sure both you and your spouse like it.

Choosing a name for baby is a wonderful process. Do not deprive your spouse of this pleasure. Make a list of names you both agree upon and choose one of them.

A name with a meaning would be nice.

Give your child a sense of belonging by choosing a name that means something to you or to the world in general. Consider the name of a loved one, a mythological character or a historical icon. Or a name based on one of baby's physical attributes like the color of her eyes or hair.

An unusual name?

Choose an unusual name by all means cause it will help your child stand out from the rest all her life. But it would be nice to avoid the ones that have high chances of being mispronounced.

The John Smith identity

An unusual name might be mispronounced, but beware of common names too. Do you want your child to be one of the eight Amys or nine Davids in the class?

Check the initials

Check if the initials spell anything that could make your baby the butt of jokes. Picture the name Martin Andrew Dale and you know what we mean.

The year's hottest name

When you choose a name from the list of top ten pop stars of the year, you run a risk of making your child uncomfortable later in life. These 'stars' might soon become obscure or outdated or even worse infamous. If your last name were Anderson, would you want to name your child Pamela?

Family feelings

You don't get to name your baby everyday. So, do consider family feelings, but do not place them over your own.

Check how it sounds

In general, long last names go well with short first names and vice versa. For example, Rob Anderson is better than Jonathan Anderson. Just as Angelina Ben better than Ann Ben.

Ultimately, a name is a matter of personal choice. These tips are just to help you finalize on one of the names you have chosen. Go ahead and give your baby a name that is close to your heart, and chances are that she will love it too.

There Are Names Galore

Choosing a name for your baby is one of the most important decisions you'll ever have to make. Afterall, you'll be saying it for the rest of your life and they'll be using it for the rest of theirs.

One of the first things to keep in mind is the fact that (like it or not) whatever name you select will probably produce a nickname variation of it. Charles will become Charlie or Chuck. Cassidy will become Cassie or Cass. So, during the selection process, consider what other names each might evolve into.

There are many avenues you can take in your quest for finding the perfect name. A few of them will be discussed here.

FAMILY and ETHNIC HERITAGE

Your family tree provides an assortment of possibilities. Naming a boy after his father has been a customary thing to do but you might want to name him after a great, great grandfather who has become dear to you thanks to the stories that have been told of him during family get-togethers. Naming a daughter after your mom automatically creates an extra special bond between them. There have even been remote family surnames switched around to become first "given" names as a way of connecting to the past. It is also customary for names to be selected from those that are passed down through one's ethnic heritage. Each family tree has wonderful names waiting to be revived into the family again.

WELL KNOWN PEOPLE

Another popular technique is to name a child after a favorite well known person (movie star, soap opera character, sports figure, etc.). Naturally, naming your baby Alexander will not ensure that he will grow up to be an inventor like Alexander Graham Bell. Nor will naming your baby after Angelina Jolie ensure that little Angie will be pretty and charismatic. And neither will the name Michael make little Mikey a great basketball player like Michael Jordan. However, it does develop a connection of sorts and adds a story behind the name if you choose this method. Ask a number of people if there's a story behind their name and you might receive a surprising variety of answers.

NOUNS

Or you might want to name your baby after a part of speech, for example, a noun. Okay, now you're saying, "What?" Yes. Many people name their children after natural items or inanimate objects. Remember, a noun is a person, place or thing. We've already discussed people, so that leaves places and things. Places can easily be found and searched on maps. A few of the more popular place names are: Dakota, Paris, Sierra, Dallas, Brooklyn and Dawn. Names of restaurants where couples first met have also been immortalized as the name of their baby.

Which brings us to things. Nature is filled with words that one could use for names. There are plants (including flowers), and rocks (including gemstones). Names in this category include: Cherry, Daisy, Ivy, Amber, Chrystal, Celsian and Coltan. Other names include: Penny, Tuesday, June, August and Autumn.

ADJECTIVES and VERBS

And how about those adjectives? An adjective describes a person, place or thing and there are quite a few adjectives being used as names each year. A few of them are: Lacey, Precious, Lucky, Dusty and Misty. Or then there are verbs such as: Prosper, Bud, Grant, Chance or Drew.

UNISEX

It's always a surprise to think of someone being a certain gender based on their name that you've heard or read, and then discover they're the opposite of what you were expecting. Unisex names are ones that have been chosen for both boys and girls. Several of these are: Dru (Drew), Kalin, Pat, Jerry, Chris, Kelly and Kelsie.

POETIC, SPIRITUAL and BIBLICAL

Of course, if you wanted to take a poetic approach you might consider something like: Cherish, Denim, Desirae, Harmony, Essence or Fortune. A spiritual approach would produce names like: Faith, Hope or Destiny. A Biblical approach offers Paul, Lois, Benjamin, Adam and Elisabeth.

SIMPLY FOR THE MEANINGS

Yet another method of choosing a name for your baby is to determine what aspirations you have for him or her and use the name that best captures that. This is done by considering the definitions of the names rather than the names themselves.

Amy - "beloved"

Justin - "Just, upright, righteous"

Hannah - "favor or grace"

Alana - "beautiful, dear child"

Emerson - "brave as a bear"

Bevin - "singer"

Quinn - "wise"

Arthur - "strong as a bear"

CYCLES OF POPULARITY

Names go through cycles of popularity. According to the Social Security Administration, the names that were chosen most often in 2004 were: Jacob, Michael, Joshua, Emily, Emma and Karen. The most popular for 1965 were: Michael, John David, Lisa, Mary and Karen. In 1880, they were: John, William, James, Mary, Anna and Emma. Josh remained the top male name until 1924 when Robert took the lead. Linda dethroned the name Mary in 1947, but Mary regained the top spot in 1953 only to lose it again.

As you can see, the assortment of names and ideas for more is vast. Enjoy the selecting process. Think about several before you settle on your final choice.

Naming Your Baby Is Part of The Challenge of Being a Parent

Baby names are as diverse as the people to whom they are given. Choosing the right name for your baby can be a very challenging yet fun exercise! This is my story.

Before I was married I used to work as a midwife in a Labor Ward. I have helped deliver over 1,000 babies. It was an awesome feeling every time I placed the baby in the mother's arms for the first time. Often I would ask, 'What's your baby's name?' The mother would look up at me with such pride and say, 'His (or her) name is....'. I loved sharing their joy. Seeing the mother snuggle up to her baby and announcing her baby's name!

I was destined to be married! An unmistakable inner thought filled my mind at the age of sixteen. I knew then that I would do nurses' training, two years of bible college and then I would get married and go to Ethiopia as a missionary.

Bill, my husband-to-be, had been a single missionary in Ethiopia for five years. While praying one time, a strong impression came to him that God would give him a wife when he returned to Australia on leave. Bill stopped in Singapore on the way home and bought the engagement and wedding rings. He had just enough money left to buy a watch, and the brand name of the watch was “Rebekah”. As Bill was reading the story of Rebekah in the Bible, this verse stood out “Just as I led Abraham’s servant to find a wife for Isaac, I will lead you to your future wife.” (Genesis, chapter 24) Hang in there! I am telling you this story so that you will understand why we named one of our daughters Rebecca!

Bill arrived back in Australia and decided to visit the bible college where he had trained. On the way, Bill heard an inner voice saying, “She is in the college.” He prayed a prayer similar to Abraham’s servant, “Lord, let it be the first girl I meet.” I was the first girl he met! We were so sure of God’s plan for our lives that the next time we met we were engaged.

A few months later we were married and on our way as newly weds to work in an isolated area southwest of the capital, Addis Ababa, in Ethiopia. After three challenging years we flew home because of the imminent birth of our eldest child. We named her Leanne Maree. Leanne was a name we always wanted if we had a girl. Maree was chosen because the night we were engaged we went to see the movie, ‘The Sound of Music’ and Maree was our modern version of Maria in the musical.

We were back in Ethiopia for the birth of our second child. An American doctor helped bring Carolyn Joy into the world, in a remote Ethiopian hospital. To minimize the risk of infection, the doctor advised me to only stay in the hospital for one hour after giving birth. The nicest thing about the experience was bringing our little bundle of joy home! Carolyn Joy was named after the doctor's daughter.

With each pregnancy we expected a boy! We wanted to call him Peter, because Peter’s character in the Bible reminded me of myself. He was outgoing, loving, passionate and spoke his mind. We did not have ultrasound in Ethiopia to determine the sex of the baby so we anxiously waited to see if we would have a Leanne or Peter. When Carolyn was coming it was Carolyn or Peter. I was pregnant again when we left Ethiopia at the beginning of the communist’s occupation. This time it would be Peter Andrew or Rebecca Grace. Rebecca Grace won — she was named after Bill’s watch brand, Rebekah, and Grace is my second name!

With three beautiful girls we both agreed that Peter was not to be! Until one night I was reading from the Bible and these words stood out, “Next year you will have a son.” Peter Andrew was born nine months later.

No doubt if you are having a child or have had children you can tell a story of how you came to choose your baby’s name. Choosing the right baby name is one of the biggest decisions you will have to make in life.

Talking of names! Another big decision you will have to make is whether you will have your name written down in Heaven. The Bible says clearly that the moment you come alive spirituality and become God’s child your name is written down in Heaven. When you become his child, your name is recorded in his family register. A cartoon flash presentation on my website (www.ydyc.org) will show you how you can become God’s child and have your name written down in Heaven. You can be sure of your final destiny.

Wilma Watson is the producer of the cartoon website: http://www.ydyc.org

She has a passion to help people reach their maximum potential through making spirituality simple and fun.

Choosing the right name for your baby can be a very challenging yet fun exercise! This her my story.
